PALESTINIAN SOLAR ENERGY PROGRAM DEMOLISHED BY ISRAEL

A sustainable energy program in ‘Area C’ of rural West Bank is being threatened by Israeli authorities. The program, which recently installed solar panels and wind turbines in 16 communities, is providing 1,500 Palestinians with electricity — who were formerly without reliable energy.

The foreign aid program, thus far successful, has become a new target for Israel as it threatens to demolish the structures that supposedly lie within Israeli ‘administration’.

The best part is when the lights in the tents go on, one by one, says Elad Orian. Electricity here, in the hills south of Hebron, was long unreliable. Either it was not available or it was too expensive, produced for just a few hours each day by a noisy, diesel-guzzling generator. That changed when Elad Orian and Noam Dotan, two Israeli physicians who had tired of conflict, came along three years ago and installed solar panels and erected wind turbines. Since then, such facilities have been installed in 16 communities, providing 1,500 Palestinians with electricity. [...]

The success, though, could soon be a thing of the past. Israel has threatened to tear them down with five municipalities in recent weeks having received “stop work” orders — the first step on the road to demolition. The problem is that the facilities are in the so-called Area C, which covers 60 percent of the West Bank and is administered by Israel. Permission from the Israelis is a requirement before construction projects can move ahead — and permits are almost never given to Palestinians. [...]

European diplomats in Ramallah and Tel Aviv suspect that the demolition orders are a reaction to a recently drafted, unusually critical EU report on the situation in Area C. It states: “The window for a two-state solution is closing rapidly with the continued expansion of Israeli settlements.” The conclusion: The EU needs to target investment in economic development and improved living conditions of Palestinians in Area C. [...]

“What can you do if there are impediments to development, such as an undefined de-development policy?” says Tsafrir Cohen, Middle East coordinator of Medico International, which supported two of the systems.

A few months ago, a similar project co-financed by the Spanish government was scheduled for demolition, something which has been prevented thus far through massive diplomatic pressure.

Projects funded by foreign aid organizations or the EU have often been destroyed in the past, the best known example being the Gaza airport, financed with $38 million from the EU only to be destroyed by Israeli bombs a short time after its construction. Generally, though, the demolitions have been the result of security concerns. The fact that harmless solar cells — installations which are funded by allied countries to provide basic humanitarian needs — are at risk of demolition is a new development. [...]

Hundreds of people live in the village, and they are the poorest of the poor. A community of shepherds, they moved freely through the area until Israel occupied the West Bank in 1967. Since then, they have settled, collecting rain water during the winter and buying expensive drinking water brought in by a truck along a gravel track in the summer. A well-maintained road to the settlement doesn’t exist, despite the fact that Shaab al-Buttum lies between two Israeli outposts. The settlements are illegal, but miraculously they have all the basics their Palestinian neighbors are missing: electricity, water and roads.

In recent months, the army issued demolition warnings against six solar and wind power systems in the South Hebron Hills, which were funded by European governments and development groups.

Known locally as Masafer Yatta, the communities lie almost entirely in Area C, the 62 percent of the West Bank under full Israel civil and security control since the 1993 Oslo Accords. [...]

U.S. COSTS SOAR FOR NEW WAR SUPPLY ROUTES

WASHINGTON — The U.S. is paying six times as much to send war supplies to troops in Afghanistan through alternate routes after Pakistan’s punitive decision in November to close border crossings to NATO convoys, the Associated Press has learned.

Islamabad shut down two key Pakistan border crossings after a U.S. airstrike killed two dozen Pakistani soldiers in late November, and it is unclear when the crossings might reopen.

Pentagon figures provided to the AP show it is now costing about $104 million per month to send the supplies through a longer northern route. That is $87 million more per month than when the cargo moved through Pakistan.

While U.S. officials have acknowledged that using alternate transportation routes for Afghan war supplies is more expensive and takes longer, the total costs had not been revealed until now. The Pentagon provided the cost figures to the AP on Thursday.

U.S. officials said Thursday the elevated costs are likely to continue for some time, as U.S.-Pakistan tensions remain high and Pakistan has not yet offered to restore the transport arrangement or to begin negotiations on the matter. Until the closure, the U.S. had relied on Pakistani routes to move about one-third of all war supplies for Afghanistan.

The U.S. has given Pakistan more than $20 billion in aid since 9/11, including civilian and military assistance. But over the past year, relations with Islamabad have been strained by a series of incidents, including the U.S. assault in Pakistan last May that killed Osama bin Laden.

Pakistani leaders have also complained about repeated U.S. drone strikes into their country. The strikes, largely by the CIA, target militants hiding along Pakistan’s border who launch attacks against NATO troops in Afghanistan.

The final straw, however, was the Nov. 26 cross-border attack, which hit two Pakistani border posts, enraging the Pakistani government and further eroding already shaky relations.

The U.S. blamed the errant airstrikes on a series of communications and coordination errors on both sides. American officials expressed regret but have not apologized for the incident, insisting that Pakistan fired first. Pakistan denies that and has called it an unprovoked attack.

In addition to closing the border crossings, Pakistan ordered the U.S. to vacate Shamsi air base, which the U.S. was using to launch drone strikes at al-Qaida and Taliban militants.

Over the past year or so, the U.S. military has been shrinking its reliance on the Pakistani routes, which are used to transport fuel and other non-lethal supplies. U.S. officials say they could manage indefinitely without that access if Pakistan either makes the closure permanent or offers to reopen it under unacceptable conditions.

Officials said that moves by Pakistan to briefly close the supply routes on two previous occasions after disputes with the U.S. prompted the Pentagon to begin shifting more to the northern crossings. Officials also believe that even if Pakistan eventually opens the supply routes, that there will be additional fees charged, so the alternate routes would help avoid those extra costs.

On the other hand, sending NATO convoys through Pakistan is seen by Washington as a significant piece of the overall U.S.-Pakistani partnership. Failure to reinstate those routes would signal a more severe diplomatic breach between the two countries at a critical time in the Afghan war and the ongoing battle against insurgents who seek sanctuary on the Pakistan side of the border.

According to U.S. officials, 85 percent of fuel supplies for the war effort in Afghanistan are now going through the northern supply routes, along with 30 percent of the supplies that had routinely come through Pakistan.

The northern routes connect Baltic and Caspian Sea ports with Afghanistan through Russia and Central Asia and the Caucases. And they combine sea, rail and truck transport.

There may be, however, some movement by Pakistan to allow certain civilian Afghan supplies through the closed routes.

Dependent on Pakistan for its imports, landlocked Afghanistan has asked authorities in Pakistan to release hundreds of vehicles stacked with goods and fuel that are being held up along with NATO supplies.

Pakistani officials say they are sorting through the thousands of stranded vehicles to push through supplies for Afghans. So far, the Pakistanis have given no indication of when they will open the border for NATO supplies to Afghanistan.

There has been limited contact between top U.S. and Pakistani officials.

Last week, Army Gen. Martin Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, talked by phone with his Pakistani counterpart, Army Gen. Ashfaq Pervez Kayani, their first contact since Dec. 21. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta has not spoken to Pakistani leaders since the incident.

NO TO `NATO`:~THE PAKISTANIS HAVE A POINT~

As an American visitor in the power precincts of Pakistan, from the gated enclaves of Islamabad to the manicured lawns of the military garrison in Peshawar, from the luxury fortress of the Serena Hotel to the exclusive apartments of the parliamentary housing blocks, you can expect three time-honored traditions: black tea with milk, obsequious servants and a profound sense of grievance.

Talk to Pakistani politicians, scholars, generals, businessmen, spies and journalists — as I did in October — and before long, you are beyond the realm of politics and diplomacy and into the realm of hurt feelings. Words like “ditch” and “jilt” and “betray” recur. With Americans, they complain, it’s never a commitment, it’s always a transaction. This theme is played to the hilt, for effect, but it is also heartfelt.

“The thing about us,” a Pakistani official told me, “is that we are half emotional and half irrational.”

For a relationship that has oscillated for decades between collaboration and breakdown, this has been an extraordinarily bad year, at an especially inconvenient time. As America settles onto the long path toward withdrawal from Afghanistan, Pakistan has considerable power to determine whether the end of our longest war is seen as a plausible success or a calamitous failure.

There are, of course, other reasons that Pakistan deserves our attention. It has a fast-growing population approaching 190 million, and it hosts a loose conglomerate of terrorist franchises that offer young Pakistanis employment and purpose unavailable in the suffering feudal economy. It has 100-plus nuclear weapons (Americans who monitor the program don’t know the exact number or the exact location) and a tense, heavily armed border with nuclear India. And its president, Asif Ali Zardari, oversees a ruinous kleptocracy that is spiraling deeper into economic crisis.

But it is the scramble to disengage from Afghanistan that has focused minds in Washington. Pakistan’s rough western frontier with Afghanistan is a sanctuary for militant extremists and criminal ventures, including the Afghan Taliban, the Pakistani Taliban, the notorious Haqqani clan and important remnants of the original horror story, Al Qaeda. The mistrust between Islamabad and Kabul is deep, nasty — Afghanistan was the only country to vote against letting Pakistan into the United Nations — and tribal. And to complicate matters further, Pakistan is the main military supply route for the American-led international forces and the Afghan National Army.

On Thanksgiving weekend, a month after I returned from Pakistan, the relationship veered precipitously — typically — off course again. NATO aircraft covering an operation by Afghan soldiers and American Special Forces pounded two border posts, inadvertently killing 24 Pakistani soldiers, including two officers. The Americans said that they were fired on first and that Pakistan approved the airstrikes; the Pakistanis say the Americans did not wait for clearance to fire and then bombed the wrong targets.

The fallout was painfully familiar: outrage, suspicion and recrimination, petulance and political posturing. Gen. Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, the chief of the army and by all accounts the most powerful man in Pakistan, retaliated by shutting (for now and not for the first time) the NATO supply corridor through his country. The Pakistanis abruptly dropped out of a Bonn conference on the future of Afghanistan and announced they would not cooperate with an American investigation of the airstrikes. President Obama sent condolences but balked at the suggestion of an apology; possibly the president did not want to set off another chorus of Mitt Romney’s refrain that Obama is always apologizing for America. At this writing, American officials were trying to gauge whether the errant airstrike would have, as one worried official put it, “a long half-life.”

If you survey informed Americans, you will hear Pakistanis described as duplicitous, paranoid, self-pitying and generally infuriating. In turn, Pakistanis describe us as fickle, arrogant, shortsighted and chronically unreliable.

Neither country’s caricature of the other is entirely wrong, and it makes for a relationship that is less in need of diplomacy than couples therapy, which customarily starts by trying to see things from the other point of view. While the Pakistanis have hardly been innocent, they have a point when they say America has not been the easiest of partners.

One good place to mark the beginning of this very, very bad year in U.S.-Pakistani relations is Dec. 13, 2010, when Richard C. Holbrooke died of a torn aorta. Holbrooke, the veteran of the Balkan peace, had for two years held the thankless, newly invented role of the administration’s special representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan. The antithesis of mellow, Holbrooke did not hit it off with our no-drama president, and his bluster didn’t always play well in Kabul or Islamabad either.

But Holbrooke paid aggressive attention to Pakistan. While he was characteristically blunt about the divergent U.S. and Pakistani views, he understood that they were a result of different, calculated national interests, not malevolence or mere orneriness. He was convinced that the outlooks could be, if not exactly synchronized, made more compatible. He made a concentrated effort to persuade the Pakistanis that this time the United States would not be a fair-weather friend.

“You need a Holbrooke,” says Maleeha Lodhi, a well-connected former ambassador to Washington. “Not necessarily the person but the role.” In the absence of full-on engagement, she says, “it’s become a very accident-prone relationship.”

On Jan. 27, a trigger-happy C.I.A. contractor named Raymond Davis was stuck in Lahore traffic and shot dead two motorcyclists who approached him. A backup vehicle he summoned ran over and killed a bystander. The U.S. spent heavily from its meager stock of good will to persuade the Pakistanis to set Davis free — pleading with a straight face that he was entitled to diplomatic immunity.

On May 2, a U.S. Navy Seals team caught Osama bin Laden in the military town Abbottabad and killed him. Before long, American officials were quoted questioning whether their Pakistani allies were just incompetent or actually complicit. (The Americans who deal with Pakistan believe that General Kayani and the director of the Inter-Services Intelligence agency, Gen. Ahmed Shuja Pasha, were genuinely surprised and embarrassed that Bin Laden was so close by, though the Americans fault the Pakistanis for not looking very hard.) In Pakistan, Kayani faced rumbles of insurrection for letting Americans violate Pakistani sovereignty; a defining victory for President Obama was a humiliation for Kayani and Pasha.

In September, members of the Haqqani clan (a criminal syndicate and jihadi cult that’s avowedly subservient to the Taliban leader Mullah Omar) marked the 10th anniversary of 9/11 with two theatrical attacks in Afghanistan. First a truck bomb injured 77 American soldiers in Wardak Province. Then militants rained rocket-propelled grenades on the U.S. Embassy in Kabul, forcing our ambassador to spend 20 hours locked down in a bunker.

A few days later the former Afghan president, Burhanuddin Rabbani, spread his arms to welcome an emissary from the Taliban to discuss the possibility of peace talks. As they embraced, the visitor detonated a bomb in his turban, killing himself, Rabbani and the talks. President Hamid Karzai of Afghanistan, without any evidence that American officials are aware of, accused Pakistan of masterminding the grotesque killing in order to scuttle peace talks it couldn’t control.

And two days after that, Adm. Mike Mullen, the outgoing chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, took to Capitol Hill to suggest that Pakistani intelligence had blessed the truck bomb and embassy attack.

His testimony came as a particular shock, because if the turbulent affair between the United States and Pakistan had a solid center in recent years, it was the rapport between Mullen and his Pakistani counterpart, General Kayani. Over the four years from Kayani’s promotion as chief of the army staff until Mullen’s retirement in September, scarcely a month went by when the two didn’t meet. Mullen would often drop by Kayani’s home at the military enclave in Rawalpindi, arriving for dinner and staying into the early morning, discussing the pressures of command while the sullen-visaged general chain-smoked Dunhills. One time, Kayani took his American friend to the Himalayas for a flyby of the world’s second-highest peak, K2. On another occasion, Mullen hosted Kayani on the golf course at the Naval Academy. The two men seemed to have developed a genuine trust and respect for each other.

But Mullen’s faith in an underlying common purpose was rattled by the truck bombing and the embassy attack, both of which opened Mullen to the charge that his courtship of Kayani had been a failure. So — over the objection of the State Department — the admiral set out to demonstrate that he had no illusions.

The Haqqani network “acts as a veritable arm of Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence agency,” he declared. “With ISI support, Haqqani operatives planned and conducted that truck-bomb attack as well as the assault on our embassy.”

Several officials with access to the intelligence told me that while the Haqqanis were implicated in both attacks, there was no evidence of direct ISI involvement. A Mullen aide said later that the admiral was referring to ISI’s ongoing sponsorship of the Haqqanis and did not mean to say Pakistan authorized those specific attacks.

No matter. In Pakistan, Mullen’s denunciation led to a ripple of alarm that U.S. military “hardliners” were contemplating an invasion. The press had hysterics. Kayani made a show of putting the Pakistani Army on alert. The Pakistani rupee fell in value.

In Washington, Mullen’s remarks captured — and fed — a vengeful mood and a rising sense of fatalism about Pakistan. Bruce O. Riedel, an influential former C.I.A. officer who led a 2009 policy review for President Obama on Pakistan and Afghanistan, captured the prevailing sentiment in an Op-Ed in The Times, in which he called for a new policy of “containment,” meaning “a more hostile relationship” toward the army and intelligence services.

“I can see how this gets worse,” Riedel told me. “And I can see how this gets catastrophically worse. . . . I don’t see how it gets a whole lot better.”

When Gen. David H. Petraeus took over the U.S. military’s Central Command in 2008, he commissioned expert briefing papers on his new domain, which sprawled from Egypt, across the Persian Gulf, to Central Asia. The paper on Afghanistan and Pakistan began, according to an American who has read it, roughly this way: “The United States has no vital national interests in Afghanistan. Our vital national interests are in Pakistan,” notably the security of those nuclear weapons and the infiltration by Al Qaeda. The paper then went on for the remaining pages to discuss Afghanistan. Pakistan hardly got a mention. “That’s typical,” my source said. Pakistan tends to be an afterthought.

The Pakistani version of modern history is one of American betrayal, going back at least to the Kennedy administration’s arming of Pakistan’s archrival, India, in the wake of its 1962 border war with China.

The most consequential feat of American opportunism came when we enlisted Pakistan to bedevil the Soviet occupiers of Afghanistan in the 1980s. The intelligence agencies of the U.S. and Pakistan — with help from Saudi Arabia — created the perfect thorn in the Soviet underbelly: young Muslim “freedom fighters,” schooled in jihad at Pakistani madrassas, laden with American surface-to-air missiles and led by charismatic warriors who set aside tribal rivalries to war against foreign occupation.

After the Soviets admitted defeat in 1989, the U.S. — mission accomplished! — pulled out, leaving Pakistan holding the bag: several million refugees, an Afghanistan torn by civil war and a population of jihadists who would find new targets for their American-supplied arms. In the ensuing struggle for control of Afghanistan, Pakistan eventually sided with the Taliban, who were dominated by the Pashtun tribe that populates the Pakistan-Afghanistan frontier. The rival Northern Alliance was run by Tajiks and Uzbeks and backed by India; and the one thing you can never underestimate is Pakistan’s obsession with bigger, richer, better-armed India.

As long as Pakistan was our partner in tormenting the Soviet Union, the U.S. winked at Pakistan’s nuclear-weapons program. After all, India was developing a nuclear arsenal, and it was inevitable that Pakistan would follow suit. But after the Soviets retreated, Pakistan was ostracized under a Congressional antiproliferation measure called the Pressler Amendment, stripped of military aid (some of it budgeted to bring Pakistani officers to the U.S. for exposure to American military values and discipline) and civilian assistance (most of it used to promote civil society and buy good will).

Our relationship with Pakistan sometimes seems like a case study in unintended consequences. The spawning of the mujahadeen is, of course, Exhibit A. The Pressler Amendment is Exhibit B. And Exhibit C might be America’s protectionist tariffs on Pakistan’s most important export, textiles. For years, experts, including a series of American ambassadors in Islamabad, have said that the single best thing the U.S. could do to pull Pakistan into the modern world is to ease trade barriers, as it has done with many other countries. Instead of sending foreign aid and hoping it trickles down, we could make it easier for Americans to buy Pakistani shirts, towels and denims, thus lifting an industry that is an incubator of the middle class and employs many women. Congress, answerable to domestic textile interests, has had none of it.

“Pakistan the afterthought” was the theme very late one night when I visited the home of Pakistan’s finance minister, Abdul Hafeez Shaikh. After showing me his impressive art collection, Shaikh flopped on a sofa and ran through the roll call of American infidelity. He worked his way, decade by decade, to the war on terror. Now, he said, Pakistan is tasked by the Americans with simultaneously helping to kill terrorists and — the newest twist — using its influence to bring them to the bargaining table. Congress, meanwhile, angry about terrorist sanctuaries, is squeezing off much of the financial aid that is supposed to be the lubricant in our alliance.

“Pakistan was the cold-war friend, the Soviet-Afghan-war friend, the terror-war friend,” the minister said. “As soon as the wars ended, so did the assistance. The sense of being discarded is so recent.”

A Boston University-educated economist who made his money in private equity investing — in other words, a cosmopolitan man — Shaikh seemed slightly abashed by his own bitterness.

“I’m not saying that this style of Pakistani thinking is analytically correct,” he said. “I’m just telling you how people feel.”

He waved an arm toward his dining room, where he hung a Warhol of Muhammad Ali. “We’re just supposed to be like Ali — take the beating for seven rounds from Foreman,” he said. “But this time the Pakistanis have wised up. We are playing the game, but we know you can’t take these people at their word.”

With a timetable that has the United States out of Afghanistan, or mostly out, by the end of 2014, Pakistan has leverage it did not have when the war began.

One day after 9/11, Richard Armitage, the deputy secretary of state, summoned the head of Pakistani intelligence for a talking to. “We are asking all of our friends: Do they stand with us or against us?” he said. The following day, Armitage handed over a list of seven demands, which included stopping Al Qaeda operations on the Pakistani border, giving American invaders access to Pakistani bases and airspace and breaking all ties with the Taliban regime.

The Pakistanis believed from the beginning that Afghanistan had “American quagmire” written all over it. Moreover, what America had in mind for Afghanistan was antithetical to Pakistan’s self-interest.

“The only time period between 1947 and the American invasion of Afghanistan that Pakistanis have felt secure about Afghanistan is during the Taliban period,” from 1996 to 2001, says Vali Nasr, an American scholar of the region who is listened to in both academia and government. Now the Bush administration would attempt to supplant the Taliban with a strong independent government in Kabul and a muscular military. “Everything about this vision is dangerous to Pakistan,” Nasr says.

Pakistan’s military ruler at the time, Pervez Musharraf, saw the folly of defying an American ultimatum. He quickly agreed to the American demands and delivered on many of them. In practice, though, the accommodation with the Taliban was never fully curtailed. Pakistan knew America’s mission in Afghanistan would end, and it spread its bets.

The Bush-Musharraf relationship, Vali Nasr says, “was sort of a Hollywood suspension of disbelief. Musharraf was a convenient person who created a myth that we subscribed to — basically that Pakistan was on the same page with us, it was an ally in the war on terror and it subscribed to our agenda for Afghanistan.”

But the longer the war in Afghanistan dragged on, the harder it was to sustain the illusion.

In October, I took the highway west from Islamabad to Peshawar, headquarters of the Pakistan Army corps responsible for the frontier with Afghanistan. Over tea and cookies, Lt. Gen. Asif Yasin Malik, the three-star who commanded the frontier (he retired this month) talked about how the Afghan war looked from his side of the border.

The official American version of the current situation in Afghanistan goes like this: By applying the counterinsurgency strategy that worked in Iraq and relying on a surge of troops and the increasingly sophisticated use of drones, the United States has been beating the insurgency into submission, while at the same time standing up an indigenous Afghan Army that could take over the mission. If only Pakistan would police its side of the border — where the bad guys find safe haven, fresh recruits and financing — we’d be on track for an exit in 2014.

The Pakistanis have a different narrative. First, a central government has never successfully ruled Afghanistan. Second, Karzai is an unreliable neighbor — a reputation that has not been dispelled by his recent, manic declarations of brotherhood. And third, they believe that despite substantial investment by the United States, the Afghan Army and the police are a long way from being ready to hold the country. In other words, America is preparing to leave behind an Afghanistan that looks like incipient chaos to Pakistan.

In Peshawar, General Malik talked with polite disdain about his neighbor to the west. His biggest fear — one I’m told Kayani stresses in every meeting with his American counterparts — is the capability of the Afghan National Security Forces, an army of 170,000 and another 135,000 police, responsible for preventing Afghanistan from disintegrating back into failed-state status. If the U.S. succeeds in creating such a potent fighting force, that makes Pakistanis nervous, because they see it (rightly) as potentially unfriendly and (probably wrongly) as a potential agent of Indian influence. The more likely and equally unsettling outcome, Pakistanis believe, is that the Afghan military — immature, fractious and dependent on the U.S. Treasury — will disintegrate into heavily armed tribal claques and bandit syndicates. And America, as always, will be gone when hell breaks loose.

General Malik studied on an exchange at Fort McNair, in Washington, D.C., and has visited 23 American states. He likes to think he is not clueless about how things work in our country.

“Come 2015, which senator would be ready to vote $9 billion, or $7 billion, to be spent on this army?” he asked. “Even $5 billion a year. O.K., maybe one year, maybe two years. But with the economy going downhill, how does the future afford this? Very challenging.”

American officials will tell you, not for attribution, that Malik’s concerns are quite reasonable.

So I asked the general if that was why his forces have not been more aggressive about mopping up terrorist sanctuaries along the border. Still hedging their bets? His answer was elaborate and not entirely facile.

First of all, the general pointed out that Pakistan has done some serious fighting in terrorist strongholds and shed a lot of blood. Over the past two years, Malik’s forces have been enlarged to 147,000 soldiers, mainly by relocating more than 50,000 from the Indian border. They have largely controlled militant activities in the Swat Valley, for example, which entailed two hard offensives with major casualties. But they have steadfastly declined to mount a major assault against North Waziristan — a mountainous region of terrorist Deadwoods populated by battle-toughened outlaws.

Yes, Malik said, North Waziristan is a terrible situation, but his forces are responsible for roughly 1,500 miles of border, they police an archipelago of rough towns in the so-called Federally Administered Tribal Areas, or FATA, and by the way, they had a devastating flood to handle last year.

“If you are not able to close the Mexican border, when you have the technology at your call, when there is no war,” he said, “how can you expect us to close our border, especially if you are not locking the doors on your side?”

Americans who know the area well concede that, for all our complaints, Pakistan doesn’t push harder in large part because it can’t. The Pakistan Army has been trained to patrol the Indian border, not to battle hardened insurgents. They have comparatively crude weaponry. When they go up against a ruthless outfit like the Haqqanis, they tend to get killed. Roughly 4,000 Pakistani troops have died in these border wars — more than the number of all the allied soldiers killed in Afghanistan.

“They’re obviously reluctant to go against the Haqqanis, but reluctant for a couple of reasons,” an American official told me. “Not just the reason that they see them as a potential proxy force if Afghanistan doesn’t go well, but also because they just literally lack the capability to take them on. They’ve got enough wars on their hands. They’ve not been able to consolidate their gains up in the northern part of the FATA, they have continued problems in other areas and they just can’t deal with another campaign, which is what North Waziristan would be.”

And there is another, fundamental problem, Malik said. There is simply no popular support for stepping up the fight in what is seen as America’s war. Ordinary Pakistanis feel they have paid a high price in collateral damage, between the civilian casualties from unmanned drone attacks and the blowback from terror groups within Pakistan.

“When you go into North Waziristan and carry out some major operation, there is going to be a terrorist backlash in the rest of the country,” Malik told me. “The political mood, or the public mood, is ‘no more operations.’ ”

In late October, Hillary Clinton arrived in Islamabad, leading a delegation that included Petraeus, recently confirmed as C.I.A. director, and Gen. Martin E. Dempsey, Mullen’s successor as chairman of the Joint Chiefs. Petraeus used to refer to Holbrooke as “my diplomatic wingman,” a bit of condescension he apparently intended as a tribute. This time, the security contingent served as diplomacy’s wingmen.

The trip was intended as a show of unity and resolve by an administration that has spoken with conflicting voices when it has focused on Pakistan at all. For more than four hours, the Americans and a potent lineup of Pakistani counterparts talked over a dinner table.

Perhaps the most revealing thing about the dinner was the guest list. The nine participants included Kayani and Pasha, but not President Zardari or Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, who provided the dining room at his own residence and made himself scarce. The only representative of the civilian government was Clinton’s counterpart, the new foreign minister, Hina Rabbani Khar, a 34-year-old rising star with the dark-haired beauty of a Bollywood leading lady, a degree in hospitality management from the University of Massachusetts and, most important, close ties to the Pakistani military.

For a country that cherishes civilian democracy, we have a surprising affinity for strong men in uniform. Based on my conversations with American officials across the government, the U.S. has developed a grudging respect for Kayani, whom they regard as astute, straightforward, respectful of the idea of democratic government but genuinely disgusted by the current regime’s thievery and ineptitude. (We know from the secret diplomatic cables disclosed by WikiLeaks that Kayani has confided to American officials his utter contempt for his president and “hinted that he might, however reluctantly, have to persuade President Zardari to resign.”) Zardari, whose principal claim to office is that he is the widower of the assassinated and virtually canonized Benazir Bhutto, has been mainly preoccupied with building up his patronage machine for elections in 2013. The Americans expect little from him and don’t see a likely savior among his would-be political challengers. (As this article goes to press, Zardari is recovering from chest pains in a hospital in Dubai; there are rumors he won’t return.) So, Kayani it is. The official American consensus is less enamored of Kayani’s loyal intelligence underling, General Pasha, whose agency consorts with terrorists and is suspected of torturing and killing troublemakers, including journalists, but Pasha is too powerful to ignore.

The day after the marathon dinner, Clinton’s entourage took over the Serena Hotel for a festival of public diplomacy — a press conference with the foreign minister, followed by a town meeting with young Pakistanis and then a hardball round-table interview with a circle of top editors and anchors.

Clinton’s visit was generally portrayed, not least in the Pakistani press, as a familiar ritual of America talking tough to Pakistan. In the town meeting, a woman asked why America always played the role of bossy mother-in-law, and that theme delighted editorial cartoonists for days.

But the private message to the Pakistanis — and a more careful reading of Clinton’s public performance — reflected a serious effort to reboot a troubled relationship. Clinton took care to pay tribute to Pakistani losses in the war against terror in the past decade — in addition to the military, an estimated 30,000 civilian dead, the equivalent of a 9/11 every year. She ruled out sending American ground troops into Pakistani territory. She endorsed a Pakistani plea that U.S. forces in Afghanistan do a better job of cleaning up militant sanctuaries on their own side of the border.

Questioned by a prominent television anchor, she repudiated Mullen’s testimony, not only disavowing any evidence of ISI complicity in the attack on America’s embassy in Kabul but also soft-peddling the spy agency’s coziness with terrorists.

“Now, every intelligence agency has contacts with unsavory characters,” she said. “I don’t think you would get any denial from either the ISI or the C.I.A. that people in their respective organizations have contacts with members of groups that have different agendas than the governments’. But that doesn’t mean that they are being directed or being approved or otherwise given a seal of approval.”

That particular riff may have caused jaws to clench at the C.I.A. compound in Langley, Va. The truth is, according to half a dozen senior officials with access to the intelligence, the evidence of Pakistan’s affinity for terrorists is often circumstantial and ambiguous, a matter of intercepted conversations in coded language, and their dealings are thought to be more pragmatic than ideological, more a matter of tolerating than directing, but the relationship goes way beyond “contacts with unsavory characters.”

“They’re facilitating,” one official told me. “They provide information to the Haqqanis, they let them cross back and forth across the border, they let this L.E.T. guy (the leader of the Lashkar-e-Taiba ) be in prison and not be in prison at the same time.”

And yet the Pakistanis have been helpful — Abbottabad aside — against Al Qaeda, which is America’s first priority and which the Pakistanis recognize as a menace to everyone. They have shared intelligence, provided access to interrogations and coordinated operations. Before the fatal border mishap Thanksgiving weekend, one U.S. official told me, anti-terror cooperation between the C.I.A. and Pakistani intelligence had been “very much on the upswing.”

The most striking aspect of Clinton’s trip, however, was her enthusiastic embrace of what is now called “reconciliation” — which is the polite word for negotiating with the Taliban.

Pakistan has long argued that the way to keep Afghanistan from coming to grief is to cut a deal with at least some of the Taliban. That would also mean Afghanistan could get by with a smaller, cheaper army. The notion has been anathema to the Americans tasked with killing Taliban; a principled stand against negotiating with terrorists is also a political meme that acquires particular potency in election seasons, as viewers of the Republican debates can attest.

Almost unnoticed, though, reconciliation has moved to a central place in America’s strategy and has become the principal assignment for U.S. officials in the region. Clinton first signaled this in a speech to the Asia Society last February, when she refocused Afghanistan strategy on its original purpose, isolating the terrorists at war with America, meaning Al Qaeda.

The speech was buried beneath other news at the time, but in early October, Tom Donilon, Obama’s national security adviser, met Kayani in Abu Dhabi to stress to skeptical Pakistani leaders that she was serious. Clinton’s visit to Islamabad with her generals in tow was designed to put the full weight of the U.S. behind it.

Clinton publicly acknowledged that the ISI (in fact, it was General Pasha in person) had already brokered a preliminary meeting between a top American diplomat and a member of the Haqqani clan. Nothing much came of the meeting, news of which promptly leaked, but Clinton said America was willing to sit down with the Taliban. She said that what had once been preconditions for negotiations — renouncing violence, shunning Al Qaeda and accepting Afghanistan’s constitution, including freedoms for women — were now “goals.”

In diplomacy, no process is fully initiated until it has been named. A meeting of Pakistani political parties in Islamabad had adopted a rubric for peace talks with the Taliban, a slogan the Pakistanis repeated at every opportunity: “Give peace a chance.” If having this project boiled down to a John Lennon lyric diminished the gravitas of the occasion, Clinton didn’t let on.

Within the American policy conglomerate, not everyone is terribly upbeat about the prospect of reconciling with the Taliban. The Taliban have so far publicly rejected talks, and the turban-bomb killing of Rabbani was a serious reversal. There is still some suspicion — encouraged by Afghanistan and India — about Pakistan’s real agenda. One theory is that Pakistan secretly wants the Taliban restored to power in Afghanistan, believing the Pashtun Islamists would be more susceptible to Pakistani influence. A more cynical theory, which I heard quite a bit in New Delhi, is that the Pakistani Army actually wants chaos on its various borders to justify its large payroll. Most Americans I met who are immersed in this problem put little stock in either of those notions. The Pakistanis may not be the most trustworthy partners in Asia, but they aren’t idiots. They know, at least at the senior levels, that a resurgent Taliban means not just perpetual mayhem on the border but also an emboldening of indigenous jihadists whose aim is nothing less than a takeover of nuclear Pakistan. But agreeing on the principle of a “stable Afghanistan” is easier than defining it, or getting there.

After Clinton left Islamabad, a senior Pakistani intelligence official I wanted to meet arrived for breakfast with me and a colleague at Islamabad’s finest hotel. With a genial air of command, he ordered eggs Benedict for the table, declined my request to turn on a tape recorder, (“Just keep my name out of it,” he instructed later) and settled into an hour of polished spin.

“The Taliban learned its lesson in the madrassas and applied them ruthlessly,” he said, as the Hollandaise congealed. “Now the older ones have seen 10 years of war, and reconciliation is possible. Their outlook has been tempered by reason and contact with the modern world. They have relatives and friends in Kabul. They have money from the opium trade. They watch satellite TV. They are on the Internet.”

On the other hand, he continued, “if you kill off the midtier Taliban, the ones who are going to replace them — and there are many waiting in line, sadly — are younger, more aggressive and eager to prove themselves.”

So what would it take to bring the Taliban into a settlement? First, he said, stop killing them. Second, an end to foreign military presence, the one thing that always mobilizes the occupied in that part of the world. Third, an Afghan constitution framed to give more local autonomy, so that Pashtun regions could be run by Pashtuns.

On the face of it, as my breakfast companion surely knows, those sound like three nonstarters, and taken together they sound rather like surrender. Even Clinton is not calling for a break in hostilities, which the Americans see as the way to drive the Taliban to the bargaining table. As for foreign presence, both the Americans and the Afghans expect some long-term residual force to stay in Afghanistan, to backstop the Afghan Army and carry out drone attacks against Al Qaeda. And while it is not hard to imagine a decentralized Afghanistan — in which Islamic traditionalists hold sway in the rural areas but cede the urban areas, where modern notions like educating girls have already made considerable headway — that would be hard for Americans to swallow.

Clinton herself sounded pretty categorical on that last point when she told Pakistani interviewers: “I cannot in good faith participate in any process that I think would lead the women of Afghanistan back to the dark ages. I will not participate in that.”

To questions of how these seemingly insurmountable differences might be surmounted, Marc Grossman, who replaced Holbrooke as Clinton’s special representative, replies simply: “I don’t know whether these people are reconcilable or not. But the job we’ve been given is to find out.”

If you look at reconciliation as a route to peace, it requires a huge leap of faith. Surely the Taliban have marked our withdrawal date on their calendars. The idea that they are so deeply weary of war — – let alone watching YouTube and yearning to join the world they see on their laptops — feels like wishful thinking.

But if you look at reconciliation as a step in couples therapy — a shared project in managing a highly problematic, ultimately critical relationship — it makes more sense. It gives Pakistan something it craves: a seat at the table where the future of Afghanistan is plotted. It gets Pakistan and Afghanistan talking to each other. It offers a supporting role to other players in the region — notably Turkey, which has taken on a more active part as an Islamic peace broker. It could drain some of the acrimony and paranoia from the U.S.-Pakistan rhetoric.

It might not save Afghanistan, but it could be a helpful start to saving Pakistan.

What Clinton and company are seeking is a course of patient commitment that America, frankly, is not usually so good at. The relationship has given off some glimmers of hope — with U.S. encouragement, Pakistan and India have agreed to normalize trade relations; the ISI has given American interrogators access to Osama bin Laden’s wives — but the funerals of those Pakistani troops last month remind us that the country is still a graveyard of optimism.

At least the U.S. seems, for now, to be paying attention to the right problem.

“If you stand back,” said one American who is in the thick of the American strategy-making, “and say, by the year 2020, you’ve got two countries — 30 million people in this country, 200 million people with nuclear weapons in this country, American troops in neither. Which matters? It’s not Afghanistan.”

A petition has been filed in LHC against American Puppet President Zardari to stop him from performing his “duties”.

Counsel for the petitioner, Advocate Azhar Sidique took the stance in the Lahore high court against Stooge President Zardari’s statement regarding implementation of Article 47 in which the President said if the article applied, his next election manifesto would be ‘ main nahin manta’ (I don’t accept).

The petitioner said that this statement of President Zardari was blatantly violating the constitution. He prayed the court to issue orders to stop President Zardari from performing his duties and take all protocols back from him.

The game changing and decisive events are unfolding at almost breathtaking pace in Pakistan. Pakistan army and the nation have stood up to defy and shock the US and NATO forces in Afghanistan. Within the country, the corrupt head of the PPP regime Zardari flees to Dubai for “treatment” after a “heart attack”.

Pakistan army is in charge of the country’s national security issues with the PPP government totally in panic and confusion. Pak army has taken most firm and hostile stand against the US calling the attacks “deliberate”, “part of a plot” and to support the TTP insurgents. These are the most damning allegations from the Pakistan army yet against the US forces in last 10 years of “alliance”.

So, it is not just the blockade of NATO supplies that is hurting US tremendously. They have been forced to vacate the Shamsi airbase also which they had been using under a farcical diplomatic arrangement between UAE and Pakistan. This base was not just for the operations within Pakistan but was also being used against Iran and for spying on Pakistan’s nuclear facilities through their newest “stealth” drone which could not be easily detected by Pakistani radars. While the new contract for supplies is being debated, this is an irrevocable damage done already to the entire US war plans against Pakistan and Iran. Iranians are extremely pleased indeed. Iranians suspect that the drone which they had shot down recently was most probably flown out of Shamsi. Ejection from Shamsi is a major setback indeed for the CIA.

The NATO supplies are now choking Pakistan ports and roads with thousands of containers, military vehicles and arms enough to raise many divisions of army vulnerable to attacks from the militants. This is the ultimate nightmare for the NATO. The more these supplies are on the road; the more chances are that they will end up in smoke. Attacks have already begun.

There is another fear which is now eating up the US and NATO planners. In the 90’s, Pakistan had purchased the F-16’s from the US but they were seized under the new laws which prohibited sale of these equipment to Pakistan. Despite the fact that Pakistan has already paid the price in full, these jets were not handed over to Pakistan and Pakistan was even charged for the parking fee into millions of dollars while these jets remained parked on military bases of the US. Now there are thousands of US military vehicles and equipment which is lying all across Pakistan waiting to cross into Pakistan. US have also not paid billions of dollars of Coalition Support Fund which they were supposed to pay to Pakistan for using Pakistan’s roads, ports and infrastructure. Now, Pakistan can actually seize all this military hardware and goods as payment for the arrears or if the relations hit new low, these can be seized as hostile enemy property as well. There is a real possibility that this equipment, if it survives the attacks from the militants, may actually end up in the new formations of the Pakistan army.

US is threatening to cut Pakistan aid. But US are again playing with fire here as well. Pak army can simply move in to help themselves with brand new state of the art NATO military hardware worth billions of dollars.

US know that if Pakistan army gets hostile, it would be the end of the US in Afghanistan. Their entire military and economic strategy for the 21st century now faces the risk of going up in smoke just because Pakistan army has had enough of non-sense frm the US and NATO. US and their lawmakers are now desperate to find ways and means to bring back Pakistan. Pakistan had also boycotted the Bonn conference. That had magnified the US embarrassment and had insult to the injury. There are many US lawmakers demanding aid cut. But the more pragmatic ones realize that they must remain engaged with Pakistan.

It is actually incredible that Pakistan’s just one NO has stunned the US and NATO in so many theatres. The problems and crisis for NATO does not end with Pakistan’s blockade of their supplies. The economy of NATO states is collapsing at home! Euro zone is now dismantling and it will become impossible for NATO states of justify their overseas military operations which remain open ended and without any mission objective.

So, what are the options open to US now? It is a desperate situation no doubt for the Washington and the Pentagon. US had planned a contingency strategy for such an eventuality which envisaged a massive air strike on Pakistan’s command and control systems and the elimination of the military leadership. This exact plan was known to Hussain Haqqani, the former Pakistani ambassador to US who is now facing the treason charges in Pakistan and the blowing up of this very scandal has forced Zardari to flee as well under the pretext of health.

But if US do go through with such a sinister and high risk plan, how will it bring troops on ground to secure a nuclear armed state? US cannot control Afghanistan, let alone a Muslim martial nation of 170 million which has around 7 million armed men within tribals and local militias to support the Pakistan army, which is also nuclear armed and allied with China and Iran. US plan was to bomb Pakistan and then land its forces on Gawader to try to cut a land route to Afghanistan. If US want its own terms, it will have to embark on this most dangerous adventure which has all the possibility of getting out of hand into a regional war.

That is where the Indian Cold start military doctrine comes in. The US Af-Pak doctrine was designed to work in tandem with Indian Cold Start strategy. The air blitz was to come from US/NATO. Ground forces would move in from India to “secure” Pakistan while the US would land and cut a corridor to Afghanistan from Gawader.

But the entire strength of this sinister high risk plan was the secrecy. Now the cover is blown, Pakistan army is ready, deployed and armed. Strategic assets deployed and directed towards US and Indian assets. The entire US/India plan of surprise and secrecy is now up in flames.

So, now, either US succumb to demands of Pakistan and find an exit strategy and leave Afghanistan while they still can. Else, they risk a massive regional war which can even go nuclear and would surely also eliminate the entire US/NATO force in Afghanistan and the region, also drawing in Iran, India and China into the conflict.

These are the most difficult times for Obama and his administration. He had come to bring victory to the US in Afghanistan. Now he faces a humiliating defeat as in Vietnam. The US administration can hope to find a slave government in Islamabad but this is not happening now. In the absence of a docile, corrupt and incompetent regime, US is now forced to deal with a tough Pakistan army which is raging with sense if revenge after having lost tens of thousands of finest of officers and men in a war of terrorism and insurgency which was orchestrated by the CIA. The Pakistan’s military leadership is now firm and is determined to undo the mistakes of the past. Even if the military leadership in Pakistan tries to give some concessions to the US at this stage, they cannot due to sheer rage and anger in the armed forces and the nation. The entire nation now stands united behind the army and the PPP regime and the US/NATO can only watch in helplessness and the wretched Indian wait in the desert for the signal from the Pentagon which is not forthcoming.

The future of the world now depends upon “Yes” and “No” from Pakistan, literally! No one is more nervous than Obama these days, apart from Zardari of course, who is meeting the CIA in dubai trying to find out how to save his regime.

If Zardari and CIA cannot find away to “neutralize” the Pakistan army, then Zardari is not coming back to Pakistan. He has been caught along with Hussain Haqqani in the memo scandal and now this is costing him his seat.

Meanwhile, the “rumors” of a coup are red hot in Islamabad. There is no doubt that even the army is fed up of this regime. It is criminal, treacherous and has abandoned the nation in these most difficult times. Army is hoping that Supreme Court will deal will deal with them legally and the army will not have to step in. Iran releases video of downed U.S. spy drone–looking intact

Iran's Press TV on Thursday broadcast an extended video tour of the U.S. spy drone that went down in the country--and it indeed appeared to look mostly intact.

American officials have acknowledged that an unmanned U.S. reconnaissance plane was lost on a mission late last week, but have insisted that there is no evidence the drone was downed by hostile acts by Iran. Rather, they said, the drone likely went down because of a malfunction, and they implied the advanced stealth reconnaissance plane would likely have fallen from such a high altitude--the RQ-170 Sentinel can fly as high as 50,000 feet--that it wouldn't be in good shape.

But Iranian military officials have claimed since Sunday that they brought down an American spy drone that was little damaged. And now they have provided the first visual images of what looks to be a drone that at least outwardly appears to be in decent condition, in what is surely another humiliating poke in the eye for U.S. national security agencies.
The Pentagon declined to comment on the released images Thursday, a Defense Department spokesman told Yahoo News. But military analysts said it appeared to them to be the American drone in question.
"I have been doing this for thirty years, and it sure looks like" a stealthy U.S. drone to me," Loren Thompson, a military analyst with the Lexington Institute and consultant to the RQ-170's manufacturer, Lockheed Martin, told Yahoo News in a telephone interview Thursday. "I think we are going to face the high likelihood that Iran has an intact version of one of our most important intelligence gathering tools."
Still, Thompson went on, the intelligence "windfall" to Iran from obtaining the advanced U.S. stealthy drone may be mitigated.
"I don't think the Iranians get as much out of it as they might hope," he said. "It probably came into their hands as a result of a technical malfunction. What that means is they still don't have a real defense against the U.S. flying other vehicles that have similar capabilities, without much fear of interception."
Analysts also noted that the video of the drone released by Iran did not show the drone's underside. "Pretty intact," the Center for Strategic and International Studies' James Lewis said by email. "Interesting that they covered the underside."
The New York Times reported Thursday that--unsurprisingly--the RQ-170 was lost while making the latest foray over Iran during an extended CIA surveillance effort of Iran's nuclear and ballistic weapons program.
"The overflights by the bat-winged RQ-170 Sentinel, built by Lockheed Martin and first glimpsed on an airfield in Kandahar, Afghanistan, in 2009, are part of an increasingly aggressive intelligence collection program aimed at Iran, current and former officials say," the Times' Scott Shane and David Sanger wrote. "The urgency of the effort has been underscored by a recent public debate in Israel about whether time is running out for a military strike to slow Iran's progress toward a nuclear weapon."
Iran in turn has complained that the drone overflights represent an act of aggression and violation of its sovereignty, and summoned the Swiss envoy--who represents U.S. interests in Iran--on Thursday to lodge a protest.
However, while the images of the U.S. drone surely allowed Iran to score another public relations blow against Washington, Iran may find it tough to generate much in the way of international sympathy for being the target of U.S. surveillance.
Last week, Iranian hardliners ransacked the British embassy in Tehran, prompting the United Kingdom to recall its diplomatic staff from Tehran and order Iran's embassy in London closed. Last month, the UN atomic watchdog agency issued a report raising concerns about research Iran is suspected by some nations to have conducted before 2003 on military aspects of its nuclear program. Iran has insisted its nuclear program is for peaceful energy purposes. In October, the United States accused elements of Iran's Qods force of plotting to assassinate the Saudi envoy to the United States. The United Nations General Assembly voted last month in favor of a resolution condemning the Iranian plot.
Amid its growing international isolation, Iran, unsurprisingly, seemed intent to play up the drone incident for all it could.
"China, Russia want to inspect downed U.S. drone," proclaimed a headline from Iran's Mehr news agency Thursday.
The RQ-170 Sentinel, however, reportedly did not use the latest U.S. surveillance technology on board, in part because as a single-engine aircraft, it was thought more likely to occasionally go down.
"The basic principles of stealthy aircraft are fairly well known," Thompson said. "In terms of [the drone's] on-board electronics and information systems, it is fairly routine in combat to require authentication codes to make them hard to unlock."

The implementation of this order allows Pakistan Army units based at checkpoints along the Afghan border to retaliate in case of any NATO/US incursions without seeking permission from the military high command.

Pakistan had recently blocked the NATO supply routes into Afghanistan due to the unprovoked NATO/US attack on a Pakistani checkpost which left 25 soldiers dead. Relations between the two forces have been tense since the attack and NATO’s belligerent behaviour has left it in a dangerous Afghanistan with an evenly irked nuclear powered neighbour.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s military said on Friday a communications breakdown prevented its air force from engaging NATO aircraft when they attacked two border outposts and killed 24 Pakistani soldiers.
The November 26 strike near the Afghan border has sparked fury in Pakistan and further complicated US-led efforts to ease a crisis in relations with Islamabad and stabilise the region before foreign combat troops leave Afghanistan in 2014.
In a statement on its public relations website, Pakistan’s military, which sets foreign and security policy, said that its response to the Nato strike could have been more effective had it been able to scramble its aircraft in time.
“The response could have been more effective if PAF (Pakistan Air Force) had also joined in. However, it was no fault of PAF,” the statement said.

“The timely decision could not be taken due to breakdown of communication with the affected posts and, therefore, lack of clarity of situation, at various levels, including the Corps Headquarters and GHQ (General Headquarters).”
Exactly what happened at the Pakistani posts along an unruly and poorly defined border is still unclear.
Pakistan said the attack was unprovoked, with officials calling it an act of blatant aggression. US officials, quoted in the Wall Street Journal on Friday, claimed Pakistani officials cleared the air strike without realising they had troops in the area.
The US Embassy in Islamabad on Thursday released a video statement on YouTube by Ambassador Cameron Munter in which he expressed regret for the attack but stopped short of an apology. Both the United States and Nato have promised to investigate the incident, expressing regret on the deaths of Pakistani soldiers but the White House said it was premature to consider apologising when an investigation was still in its early stages.
Pakistan has shown its anger over the attack by blocking supply routes for Nato forces in Afghanistan, and pulling out of an international conference in Germany next week on Afghanistan, depriving the talks of a central player in peace efforts.
Western leaders have urged Islamabad to rethink its decision to boycott the conference, but Pakistani Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar said a reversal was unlikely.
“I don’t think there is a very strong case to reconsider this decision at all,” she told reporters on Friday. Pakistan has a long history of ties to militant groups in Afghanistan so it is considered to be uniquely positioned to help bring about a peace settlement, a top foreign policy and security goal for the Obama administration.

Pakistan has developed smartest nuclear tactical devices

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s nuclear programme has made some extraordinary progress by developing one of the world’s smartest nuclear tactical devices, it has been learnt.

According to a western diplomat, the former dictator and the then President General Pervez Musharraf, during one of his meetings with US officials, had deemed it proper to convey it to the Americans what Pakistan possessed and how the country’s nuclear scientists had secured the defence of Pakistan.

The diplomatic source said that New Delhi also knows what Pakistan has produced and what is really unmatched. The Indians got this source said and believed that Musharraf intentionally conveyed this to the Americans so that the country is not treated by the US like Afghanistan and Iraq Pakistan is neither a signatory to NPT nor CTBT, however, it has unilaterally decided to use its nuclear programme only as deterrence against any foreign aggression.

After becoming the target of the Western capitals particularly Washington, which have been unleashing all sorts of propaganda against Pakistan’s nuclear programme, Islamabad has developed one of the most credible and foolproof command and control systems for its nuclear programme. The US authorities have acknowledged the credibility and security of Pakistan’s nukes.

Wikipedia quotes a Washington-based science think tank as saying that Pakistan is increasing its capacity to produce plutonium at its Khushab nuclear facility. The website said that the estimated Pakistani nuclear weapons was probably in the neighbourhood of more than 200 by the end of 2009.

It, however, adds that the actual size of Pakistan’s nuclear stockpile is hard for experts to gauge owing to the extreme secrecy, which surrounds the programme. Pakistan’s nuclear programme was started by Zulfikar Ali Bhutto while the country conducted its nuclear test on May 28, 1998 during Nawaz Sharif’s tenure.

Pakistan Needs A Long-Term Break From The US

Pakistan has reached breaking point with the United States and its replacement with a genuinely independent foreign and domestic policy.

Previously, the ruling political and military elite, for personal and institutional reasons, never truly attempted to seek separation from a bad, exploitative and increasingly humiliating marriage with Washington. But the attack on Pakistan’s military check posts on the border with Afghanistan created circumstances that forced the ruling elite’s hand and finally pushed them over the line that they had kept avoiding to cross for decades.

This event has proven beyond any doubt that the US agenda was to completely subjugate Pakistan and punch so many holes into its defense lines that these would become dysfunctional. But it is also true that while this event would have provoked Pakistan into some sort of a firm reaction, the response would not have been as wide-ranging as it has turned out to be if it was not for three other events. The first of these is the Rymond Davis case which for the first time publicly disclosed the nature of CIA’s secret war in Pakistan and proved the audacity with which US was operating on Pakistani soil in complete contempt of Islamabad’s status as an ally in the so called war against terror.

It also revealed and further generated deep-seated anti-US sentiments at the grass root level and shocked the ruling elite into accepting that their policy of total compliance with Washington’s agenda had lost all public support that is if it ever had any public support. The second event was the OBL operation. That particular event was a direct insult and injury to the core of Pakistan’s establishment which had tried so hard to cultivate close ties with Washington’s political and military bureaucracy. It showed to the Pakistani establishment that no matte how hard they tried, they would always be dispensable for Washington that would always treat them as a speck on its strategic shoe.

The incident also brought to light the possibility of US attempting a similar raid against Pakistan’s nuclear assets and then using international sanctions forcing Islamabad to accept its new ‘non’ nuclear status. But what really created an unprecedented hatred and uproar in the inner sanctum of the Pakistani establishment was the Memogate. This particular document revealed the possibility of the US attempting a change within with help of cronies and henchmen.

The Torjan horse nature of the memo’s content left little room for complacency in formulating a reaction that would cut off the multiple sources of US influence in Pakistan. The deadly attack on the check-posts provided the perfect trigger to touch off a response that had been developing for months. This response is likely to be spelt out clearly in the next couple of days starting today. It need to be close watched because this might be the most far reaching foreign policy revision that Pakistan’s ruling elite is attempting in decades.

Pakistani Military Suspends Co-operation with CIA and NATO

Saturday morning had grim news for the Pakistani nation; NATO helicopters and a warplane flew in more than 2.5 kilometers into the Mohmand area of Pakistani territory and attacked a check post that had a Pakistani flag clearly visible. When the news broke, we were told that 22 soldiers were martyred while some were left struggling. While there was immediate outrage at political gatherings, few more succumbed to their wounds, bringing the death toll to 30 by late Sunday night. Meanwhile, through Saturday night the Americans apologized for the incident and promised a joint investigation.

Defending its action, NATO has claimed that the strike at the check post was in response to attacks coming from the area. This is apparently a blatant lie because the area had been freed of militancy. Possible explanations for this unprovoked attack have come from various quarters. One said that this was expected, as previously, shortly after the Raymond Davis affair, a drone strike killed 23 innocent tribal people, and that was seen as the American method of extending their thanks for letting their terrorist go free. This time, we have paid the price for removing their asset, Ambassador Haqqani. While not everyone will agree to this reasoning, one thing is for sure; the attack was no mistake, and the NATO forces intended to harm no one else but Pakistani soldiers.

The Pakistani military top leadership seems to have finally gotten fed up with the dirty intentions of the foreign forces in Afghanistan, and it appears that they want to end this relationship by taking almost immediate action in the aftermath of the attacks. However, we can’t say we haven’t seen anything like this before; Pakistan had blocked NATO supply routes when our soldiers were deliberately attacked in the past too. However, the scale of the assault on innocent Pakistani troops this time can’t be ignored, and the result of this has been intense fury on the part of the Pakistan Army accompanied by an increasingly popular and vociferous Imran Khan. Apart from the latter, even other American boot licking politicians have been compelled to crawl out and condemn the attack.

On Sunday, protests were held across the country as anti-American sentiments are being expressed. One might say that’s quite normal, but these feelings are running higher than ever, and there is an equal amount of hatred directed at our government, and rightly so; beginning with retired Gen. Musharaf and leading right up till today, these so-called leaders have continuously given in to the Anglo-American terrorists’ whims and fancies. This time, despite many ongoing issues simmering in Pakistan, the NATO attack on our Salala check post is way too much to ignore. The civilian leadership has no option but to bow down to the military’s anger, and effectively, most if not all cooperation with the CIA have been suspended.

The public welcomes the Pakistan military’s stance, and hopes that it is permanent. Although the people have been disappointed with the moves made by all leadership fronts including the military at times, we look up to General Kiyani and his men to restore sanity and dignity to this great nation.

The false rhetoric of Jew TV’s anchorperson: Sana Buchha caught once again!

In her article published in The News on 20th November 2011, the anchor person of JEW TV, Sana Buchha claimed that the Pakistan Resolution was drafted by an Ahmadi named Muhammad Zafrullah Khan, who was part of Muslim League.
She writes:

It surprises me that we have forgotten those very people who helped draft the resolution that gave us Pakistan. Mohammad Zafarullah Khan was an Ahmadi but it was he who drafted the Pakistan Resolution and represented the Muslim League’s view when it came to deciding the future boundaries between India and Pakistan.

So, now for the sake of argument, lets just accept her claim and keeping in mind her article as a whole, lets try to carve out a conclusion about what she wanted to persue.

First of all, relating the Eid ul Azha, which a moment of happiness with so many tragedies, she is trying to minimize all the scarce universal happiness that we get just twice in the year in the form of Eid.

Secondly, if the resolution was drafted by an Ahmadi and Quaid had no objection over it (which is a flat lie as proven below), should we declare Ahmadis as muslims who have been declared infidels by the unanimous resolution of Parliament in 1973′s constitution? This means that she is openly challenging the constitution and mocking Khatm-e-Nabuwat.

Thirdly, she is accusing Quaid of being a liberal, which a faction of fatuous people believe just because of the reason that they can’t differentiate between liberalism and freedom of faith, Quaid believed in the latter one! Never did he claim that he believed in liberalism.

Quaid-e-Azam clearly said that:

We didn’t demand Pakistan just to have a piece of land, but we wanted a laboratory where we could practice on Islamic principles.

This quote shows the pure Islamic thoughts of Quaid-e-Azam free of any other isms. Madam Sana forgot that in a speech in october 1947 which is also present on youtube Quaid-e-Azam clearly said that:

You are only voicing my sentiments and the sentiments of millions of Musalmaans, When you say that Pakistan should be based on the pure foundation of justice and Islamic… Islamic socialism.. not other isms!

So, Miss Sana Buchha has completely compromised the sentiments of Millions of Musalmans by calling Quaid-e-Azam liberal, and that he followed liberalism.

Now lets have a detailed examination of Muhammad Zafrullah Khan’s role in the struggle movement for Pakistan.

Dr. Safdar Mehmood, an urdu columnist throws some light on the historical background of Pakistan resolution in one of his article. He states that if Pakistan Resolution was actually drafted by Muhammad Zafrullah Khan, i would have accepted it, but turning the pages of history, the picture is completely different. For this, Miss Sana Buchha shoud read the book ‘Evolution for Pakistan’ written by Shareefuddin Pirzada. I agree that the image of Shareefuddin in quite controversial in the present perspective, but in past he has been an active member of the struggle for Pakistan and his position in that regard cannot be doubted in any way. Being the secretary of Quaid-e-Azam, he holds a very important position.

Mian Noor Ahmad in his book ‘Noor-e-baseerat Kalaam-e-Iqbal ki roshni mai‘ writes:

“First of all, this should be quite much clear in our wits that Pakistan was achieved on the basis of Islamic nationalism, the idea which was given to Muslims by Allama Muhammad Iqbal, and that was the only driving force that led the muslims to pass the unanimous Pakistan resolution. The ideological background to Quaid-e-Azam was given by non other but Allama Iqbal, Allama Iqbal was of the opinion that how can Islam be encaged and Muslim be free(liberal), keeping in mind that Quaid-e-Azam followed Allama Iqbal directed him to do, now lets see the stance of Allama Iqbal about liberalism(Picture on right).

If the muslims required the state of Madina, how is it possible that they didn’t needed the state of Pakistan?” [Page-202]

This is a very well known fact that the quest for Pakistan was first officially made public by Muslim League of Sindh. When All Indian Muslim League decided to hold a public gathering in March 1940 to put forward a demand for Pakistan, the English Govenrment tried their level best to get the gathering postponed and for this purpose they launched their special men in the shape of Muhammad Zafrullah Khan who was later awarded with the title of ‘Sir’ for his services by the British crown, and the premier of Punjab ‘Sir’ Sikandar Hayat, but despite all their pressure, Quaid-e-Azam remained unmoved! History bears witness that the Viceroy of India at that time, Lord Linlithgow, 0n 29th March 1939, announced that India will soon be given a dominion status i.e they will soon be given independence. Muhammad Zafrullah Khan worte a note to viceroy analysing the stance of Muslim League and Congress and held the division of India was impossible and it should remain united.

The question to be asked here is that a person who wrote a letter to Viceroy and showing his stance about the division of India so bluntly, how on earth can he be the drafter of Pakistan Resolution, the very next year? The answer to this very critical question can only be given by Miss Sana Buchha!

Shareefuddin Pirzada in his book clearly states that in a statement Mr. Zafrullah Khan bluntly said that he never presented any sort of formula for the division of Pakistan and hence it is impossible that Quaid-e-Azam gave any heed to his opinion [Page-208].

On the other hand, Sir Sikandar Hayat on 11 March 1941 in the Punjab Assembly revealed that the original draft of Pakistan Resolution was made by him but Muslim League, after several amendments, completely changed the shape of the original draft. Obviously, Mr. sikanadar could not lie standing in Punjab Assembly as all the politicians of that time very well alive. The fact that Muslim League never confuted his statement makes the picture even clearer!

The knowledge of Miss Sana Buchha in this regard is nothing more than a regular Wikipedia reader which is often a cock and bull story and which is notorious for maligning and molding the historical events according to the desires of Enemies of Islam. Miss Sana Buchha’s complete bullying and misquoting of all the historical aspects of Pakistan Resolution, clearly shows on whose agenda she is working. This is not the first time that Miss Sana Buchha is molding the facts and figures to meet the interests of the masters of Jew TV which is very well known to be working on foriegn agenda and has its connection with secret socities.

It all started back in 2008 with the 26/11 Mumbai Fiasco was conducted and the lauch of her program ‘Crisis Cell’ on Jew TV was quite critical keeping upto the situation, she did hell of a propaganda against Pakistan speaking the language of RAW, and now she is maligning the history in the manner that the defeatist minded members of SAFMA do. We warn her that we are noting down each and every trecherous act of her, and she will have to pay for all this… very soon!

Senator John 2Kerry, who is known as the Obama Administration’s trouble shooter on Pakistan, believes that the situation in the country is very serious and the US-Pak relationship is now facing a major challenge.

“It’s very serious. It’s very complicated,” Kerry told Indian reporters on the sidelines of a reception for the new Indian Ambassador to the US, Nirupama Rao, when asked about the developments in Pakistan in the wake of the killing of 24 Pakistani soldiers by NATO forces in a cross-border fire over the weekend, PTI reported on Wednesday.

The incident has made the Pakistan government and its people furious, as a result of which Islamabad has stopped the crucial NATO supply route – which the lifeline for 140,000 US and international troops in Afghanistan. It also asked US to vacate the secret Shamsi airbase which is apparently used by the CIA for drone attacks and have announced to boycott the upcoming important international meet in Bonn on Afghanistan.

“I think it’s a serious challenge. (We) have a lot of concerns,” Kerry said when asked about the reaction from Pakistan especially boycott of the Bonn conference.

In the nearly three years of Obama Administration, the White House has heavily relied on Kerry’s diplomatic skills to build up the relationship with Pakistan, every time its ties with Islamabad are in a deep crisis.

In the past Kerry has flown to Pakistan several times to successfully overcome those challenges and resolve the differences between the two countries, be it the Raymond David case or the aftermath of the May 2 incident when Osama bin Laden was killed and a US helicopter was stuck in the Abbottabad compound after the operation.

Kerry, a key architect of the Kerry-Lugar-Berman bill was instrumental in passage of the bill that resulted in providing USD 7.5 billion in civilian aid to Pakistan over a period of five years.

He is known to have close relationship with top Pakistani leaders and military officials.

It is not clear yet, what role Kerry is willing to play when the relationship between the two countries is said to be at its lowest ebb in the nearly three years of Obama Administration.

Major General Athar Abbas has said 72 Pakistani soldiers have been martyred and more than 250 injured. He categorically said this state of affairs is unacceptable. He also hinted at further action that the Pak leadership may take.

Pakistan has suspended NATO supplies to Afghanistan in protest against NATO strike.
NATO helicopters fired on an army checkpoint near the Afghan border and killed 25 soldiers, in an attack that is likely to further strain relations between Islamabad and US-led forces fighting in Afghanistan.The incident late Friday night came a little over a year after US helicopters killed two Pakistani soldiers near the border. Pakistan responded by closing a key border crossing on a NATO supply route to Afghanistan for 10 days until the US apologized.

In a statement sent to reporters, the Pakistan military blamed NATO for the attack in the Mohmand tribal area, saying the helicopters "carried out unprovoked and indiscriminate firing." It said casualties have been reported but details were still coming.

A government official and a security official said the helicopters killed 25 Pakistani soldiers, including two officers, and wounded seven others in two attacks on the checkpoint.

The government official was based in Mohmand and the security official in Peshawar, the main city in Pakistan s northwest. They spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk to the media.

NATO officials in Kabul said Saturday morning that they were aware of the incident, and would release more information after they were able to gather more facts about what happened.

The governor of Pakistan s northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province criticized the incident, calling it "an attack on Pakistani sovereignty."

The checkpoint that was attacked had been recently set up in Salala village by the army to stop Pakistani Taliban militants holed up in Afghanistan from crossing the border and staging attacks, said two government administrators in Mohmand, Maqsood Hasan and Hamid Khan.

The military has blamed Pakistani Taliban militants and their allies for killing dozens of security forces in such cross-border attacks since the summer. Pakistan has criticized Afghan and foreign forces for not doing enough to stop the attacks, which it says have originated from the eastern Afghan provinces of Kunar and Nuristan. The U.S. has largely pulled out of these provinces, leaving the militants in effective control of many areas along the border.

At the time of writing these lines, the all-powerful civil-military tribunal had yet to hold its promised huddle with Ambassador Haqqani. Surely, he will be asked to resign but while his inevitable resignation must not be taken as being tantamount to his admission of guilt, it does highlight the fatal consequence of state representatives confusing themselves with the state itself. The expected resignation will not mark the culmination of a raging controversy but signal the beginning of silent and far more meaningful changes.

According to informed sources, armed with highly incriminating communication data evidence, the non-civilian part of the power equation has already worked out a national charter of demands in which Haqqani’s removal is a minimum starter. Word has it that the military establishment, while weary of seeking any direct role is also conscious of the public sentiment of being held responsible for helping the marauding government stay in the saddle. It wants the system to work without stepping in, if possible. A middle ground may yet be found in case Haqqani is made to walk his resignation talk and the matters reach level two. In such an eventuality and still holding a smoking gun, in the first phase the Rawalpindi chaps may ask the government to cause massive changes in top managements of various state institutions and corporations being headed by known incompetent and corrupt government cronies. If this covert effort of restoring some sanity to governance fails then we could well see a renewed effort to find out the accomplices in this dirty-memo case. You get it, right?

In June this year, Haqqani reportedly played dinner host to a couple of prominent former federal ministers along with their spouses. One former minister in particular stands out as he has remained a close associate of Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, served twice in her cabinet, and was once fairly close to Mr. President who at that time was just Mr. Zardari. The dinner guests also included a few Americans including a leading functionary of the Homeland Security Department. The dinner conversation flowed the way of drinks. Tongues loosened up. Guards came down. At one point, Ambassador Haqqani reportedly told his rather startled Pakistani friends that the Americans had identified 362 military targets in Pakistan, including 28 in and around Islamabad alone, and asked our prominent friend to share his address so in case he was near one of the chosen targets he could be told to move away to safety. These targets, according to the shared discussion, included even the residences of irritating military decision makers and not just security affairs related installations.

Haqqani, according to one of the many dinner guests, then talked rather boisterously about his extremely close links with the US administration and at one point reportedly told his guests that whenever he went to have a meeting with his US counterparts he decided unilaterally what he had to say and not what his government wanted him to. “Every time I have a candid discussion with them, and that is why they trust me. At the end of my meetings, I leave the FO brief telling them it was my official duty to hand over this pack of official lies,” he reportedly told his Pakistani guests.

Fast forward to October. A perturbed sounding Husain Haqqani, according to Mansoor Ijaz, called him up to find out whether he knew anything about the DG ISI flying into London to discuss the memo issue. At the time, according to Mansoor, the envoy had believed that the DG ISI was coming to meet with FT chaps to get more detailed info and wanted Mansoor to ask the FT chaps to desist from sharing info. Little did he know who was coming to meet who. But since we have been taking every claim of Mansoor with a bucket of salt, I subject this claim also to the same level of suspicion.

Why am I sharing these asides? Because I don’t look for grand designs behind every big development. I believe in majority of cases, individual ambitions and subsequent actions sire larger than life devastating consequences. Don’t forget that the sacking of the chief justice had its genesis in the denied individual ambitions of someone wanting to be a Supreme Court judge. The memo controversy too, I believe, was spawned by an individual vaulting ambition and may just end up deciding the fate of more than one in the coming months.

Personality can never be taken out of politics, rather it is the personal traits of an individual that predominantly define the political outlook and even more important, the practices. President Zardari is no exception. Temperamentally, he is anything but a meek docile pushover who would scamper under the bed every time the floor boards creek in the night. He does not shirk from bold moves. He loves to roll the dice even if it appears loaded against him. Like an incorrigible compulsive gambler, even after calling it a night and on his way home, he will still yank the lever of that shiny slot machine right by the casino exit. He is someone who loves to push back when pushed, call the other side’s bluff while doubling his own, believes power to be the sole justified end — means be damned, and thrives on his reputation of being ‘yaaron kaa yaar’ (friend of friends). The unfolding Mullen-memo mess is likely to see all these traits come into play and it is his personal countenance more than anything else, which shall ultimately dictate the future contours of country’s political and power landscape. What is really important therefore is not how the president deals with Husain Haqqani’s personal future but that of the entire political structure.

It matters little whether Ambassador Haqqani resigns or is made to resign because what matters is how the president and his team deal with the fallout. Things could move smoothly if the presidency views this controversy as a bump on the road instead of making it an ego issue and lie low for a vengeful strike back a few weeks or months down the road. That would be disastrous for democracy.

How the president behaves in the coming days is the key to the future. A rather interestingly incisive analysis of president’s ‘political persona was done by a former federal minister who used to be extremely close to Benazir Bhutto and at one time, was also considered a close friend of the president himself. To quote him, “ On close observation, one can analyse and filter down the president’s power politics doctrine to four basic principles. 1) The first rigid political principle is that there are no rigid principles in politics. 2) If there is a problem then throw in concessions and money and ‘buy’ a solution. 3) Do not resist an irresistible force. 4) But, do not give in till a force becomes irresistible”. Hopefully, the president will realise that the heavy dossier of evidence has created an irresistible force and in such a case he knows exactly what to do.

The memo has changed a lot more in the power equation than is apparent at this moment. Theatrics won’t do anymore. No more these cheeky cloak-and-dagger games. We live in a serious world with serious challenges and can’t afford vagaries of foolish ambitions. Individuals are dispensable, the country is not.

Iran arrests 12 CIA spies accused of targeting nuclear programme in league with the Mossad

Parviz Sorouri, who sits on the powerful committee of foreign policy and national security, that the alleged agents had been operating in co-ordination with Israel’s Mossad and other regional agencies, and targeted the country’s military and its nuclear programme.
“The U.S. and Zionist regime’s espionage apparatuses were trying to damage Iran both from inside and outside with a heavy blow, using regional intelligence services,” Sorouri was quoted as having said on Wednesday.

“Fortunately, with swift reaction by the Iranian intelligence department, the actions failed to bear fruit,” Mr Sorouri said.

The lawmaker did not specify the nationality of the alleged agents, nor when or where they had been arrested.

Iran periodically announces the capture or execution of alleged US or Israeli spies, and often no further information is released.
This current announcement follows the unravelling by Lebanon’s Hizbollah of a CIA spy ring in that country. Hizbollah reportedly works closely with Iran.
Hezbollah’s longtime leader, Sheik Hassan Nasrallah, boasted in June on television he had unmasked at least two CIA spies who had infiltrated the ranks of the organisation. Though the US Embassy in Lebanon officially denied the accusation, American officials conceded that Nasrallah wasn’t lying and that Hizbollah had subsequently methodically picked off CIA informants.

The United States and its allies suspect Iran is pursuing a nuclear weapon program, a charge Iran denies.

Traitor Hussain Haqqani’s resignation and the Aftermath

As the memogate episode continues, the American appointed stooge ambassador of Pakistan for USZ Mr. Hussain Haqqani resigns on the pressure imposed by Pakistan Army in the meeting between the puppet government and Pakistan Army leadership last night. Mr. Haqqani is the same person who issued visas without the consent of ISI to several hundreds of Americans one of whom is commonly known as Raymond Davis, the murderer of three innocent Pakistanis.

It is very critical that this is the only memo that came in the spotlight as one of the characters involved in it exposed it. There needs to be an investigation into the entire track record of Mr.Haqqani who has been a mouthpiece of USZ foreign office throughout pretty much his entire career over many issues and it is told by he himself that he had very cordial relations with Mike Mullen, the same USZ commander who issued threats to Pakistan few months ago when CIA and ISI were at daggers drawn over the issue of hypothetically fabricated terror hype of so called “Haqqani network”. It is very important that a traitor like him should not be let go by just a resignation but he should be challenged in a military court as military courts can deal with any type of case in which a conspiracy against Pakistan Army is planned.

A writ petition was filed in Lahore High Court seeking directions to the federal government to place Ambassador Hussain Haqqani’s name on the Exit Control List (ECL). The petition also asks that high treason proceedings be initiated against Pakistan’s American-appointed ex-ambassador to the USZ for violating the Constitution. The petition says that Haqqani’s derogatory letter – that he sent through a USZ-based businessman Mansoor Ijaz – to former USZ military chief, Mike Mullen had tarnished the image of both Pakistan and its armed forces. It described the letter as an attempt to hand over Pakistan’s sovereignty to America.
The petitioner pleaded that Haqqani, who holds dual nationality – of Pakistan and USZ – was appointed ambassador to Sri Lanka against merit during Nawaz Sharif’s tenure as prime minister. But Haqqani then changed his loyalties and became a member of PPP, said the petitioner. He was made Pakistan’s ambassador to the USZ in violation of merit again, the petitioner submitted. A bureaucrat is supposed to be neutral in all governments. The petitioner requested that a lie detector test be used to determine whether Haqqani is telling the truth. In the same petition, Rajpoot requested the court to direct all respondents to declare their assets, held in Pakistan and abroad, along with affidavits. He further prayed the court to initiate proceedings against them.
The Pakistani courts have been once again put on trial and if they want to prove their loyalty, they have to tell the nation about the reality of this high treason that has been carried out on diplomatic level, conspiring against military establishment and state. According to constitution of Pakistan, death sentence can be given if conspiracy against the state is proved. Moreover, the real culprit of the act with whose consent all this operation was conducted has to be put on justice, and scrutinizing the matter takes us to the puppet president, Zardari.
History will remember all of those who betray this land as the Mir Jafar and Mir Sadeq of the time. They sold the honor, dignity of this Pure land. There are many like them in SAFMA, ruling parties and in the national organizations.

Pakistan has upgraded the MFI-395 Super Mushshak with a completely new integrated glass cockpit instead of traditional style of analog dials and gauges.. The Super Mushshak is a basic trainer aircraft which is offered to the International Military and commercial customers. by the Pakistan Aeronautical Complex (PAC).

The Super Mushshak features two large multi-function displays, one each for the pilot and co-pilot. It is on the static line next to the JF-17 fighter.

The Mushshak series of basic trainers has been a great success for the Pakistan Aeronautical Complex due to its export orders. Beside commercial customers PAC has sold Mushshak trainer to the Pakistan Air Force & Pakistan Army (149), Iranian Air Force (25), Royal Saudi Air Force (20), Royal Air Force of Oman (8), Egyptian Air Force (54) and the Syrian Air Force (6).

Pakistan Aeronautical Complex is hoping to sell the latest Super Mushshak with glass cockpit as basic traning aircraft as well as ultra light commercial aircraft. Its officals said at the Dubai air show, "You can use it both in the air force, or on the golf course" .

Britain’s Royal Navy frigate sent to Libya with four missiles

Royal Navy officers said HMS Westminster was “dangerously under-defended” when it was called on to patrol close to the Libyan port city of Benghazi in March.
The warship can carry 32 Seawolf and eight Harpoon missiles but it is understood that military cutbacks left the Westminster and its crew of 190 with only a fraction of that capability.
As Seawolf missiles — which are used to intercept incoming missiles — are fired in pairs, sources said the Westminster had just two rounds to defend against missile attacks from Col Muammar Gaddafi’s forces.
In another recent admission, the Royal Navy said it was unable to spare a warship to guard British waters for the whole of October after last year’s defence cuts.

Rear Admiral Chris Parry, a retired officer, said it was unbelievable that the Westminster had so few missiles on board and said ships in the Falklands and the Gulf wars were equipped to full capacity. He added: “This is yet another example of the incoherence of last year’s Strategic Defence and Security Review. What if the Government’s bluff had been called? What would the Ministry of Defence be saying if the Westminster had been hit by something? They took a big risk.”
“The Government needs to realize there’s only a limited amount you can cut the tail before the teeth fall out.” Penny Mordaunt, the Conservative MP for Portsmouth North, who is a naval reservist, said:“I am absolutely convinced, and so are other warfare officers I’ve spoken to, that the Westminster would have been in danger. We’ve hollowed out the capability to a dangerous level.”
The Ministry of Defence accepted that the Westminster was short of missiles when it sailed to Libya and that it was not replenished at sea. But a spokesman would not confirm or deny claims that the ship had just four missiles in the war zone.

Ursula Brennan, the Permanent Under Secretary at the MoD, said: “The assessment of the risk to HMS Westminster would have taken into account the other capabilities that we had in terms of submarines, aircraft and surveillance and so on. The questions will then have been asked, ‘In those circumstances, do we think that is a risk worth taking?’ “That is a judgment our operations people take on a daily basis.”

Pakistan-Turkmenistan: Looking For New Horizons

ECO with a population of 440 million, is not a small market, the US that is a considered a big consumer market is 300 million. If the countries are given a free hand by the outside forces, the economy, culture, trade, communication, industry etc can be augmented and integrated for the mutual benefit of the member countries.

Before I make my analysis on Turkmenistan, I would like to add that seeing into the future, I could visualize that Central Asian Republics (CAR) should be the future focus of Pakistan. It was not just a passion or some gut feeling but signs and the reading of the events was clearly pointing in that direction. Since CAR is part of ECO, therefore CAR cannot be studied separately but in a broader context of ECO. Accordingly a virtual think tank was established in 2008 to study and focus on ECO with a special emphasis on CAR. When I discussed with a number of professors of IR from different universities, all after a deep thought came back as if they come out of sleep and opined that ECO is our future and CAR needs a special study to build strong ties.

A study panel was established and we began holding our monthly meetings at borrowed places for not having a place of our own. Its hoped that one day we shall find some sponsors to sponsor this .

I have always compared ECO with SAARC; similarities, potential, advantages and disadvantages etc. SAARC has some inherent defects; it’s the hegemonic attitude of India, the largest country in this block that has not allowed any move forward. All the countries surround India and none are happy with her attitude , aims and objectives. India has long outstanding issues that India is not willing to resolve. Like Zionism, it’s the Hindutwa that has become a real threat not only to the region but reaching far and beyond the region. Even Bangladesh, whom India instigated to secession from Pakistan, has some serious issues with India. Sri Lanka faced a proxy war of India for 30 years. Nepal, a landlocked country has been subjected to various political destabilizations to make it submit designs, likewise Bhutan has no independent policy of her own but to keep supporting Indian agenda. Sikkim another landlocked country was annexed by India like it did with Junagdh, Manavadar and Hyderabad that had opted for Pakistan. Jammu and (J&K) remains a very burning issue that India is not prepared to resolve. This is yet another state that is Muslim majority that was to accede to Pakistan but the conspiracy of Lord Mount Batten, not forgetting Lady Mountbatten, along with Nehru changed the borders and gave Ferozepur and Gurdaspur to India so that India can have land access to J&K state.

Unlike India’s constant threatening postures, ECO has no such issues; there are no border disputes, no religious disparities or cultural dissimilarities. In population, ECO is much smaller to SAARC but in area and resources, SAARC is not match to ECO. The six landlocked countries (CAR) of ECO have no problem except the American presence in Afghanistan that’s a big impediment for the growth of the region. People of Afghanistan are as enthusiastic about ECO as of any other country of the block. Its imperative that the US and her NATO allies leave Afghanistan at the earliest so that a more comprehensive cooperation and development can take place.

With surplus in oil, gas and coal the energy needs of the member states would not only be met but would have huge surplus to export to outside world.

Ethnically all the states have common roots and heritage therefore there are no irritants of any sort. What is required to increase the flow of people from one state to another for trade, education, cultural exchanges etc.

It was in this context that Gurbanguly BERDIMUHAMEDOW, Turkmenistan president paid an official visit to Pakistan. This visit is a series of exchange visits by the heads of the governments of the member countries on bilateral basis that in turn are strengthening ECO.

Turkmenistan with a population of 4.9 million, is largely a desert country with intensive agriculture in irrigated oasis and sizeable gas and oil resources. The two largest crops are cotton and wheat. Although agriculture accounts for roughly 10% of GDP, it continues to employ nearly half of the country’s workforce. This implies that Pakistan must lay greater emphasis on its agriculture sector to reduce unemployment.

Turkmenistan has taken a cautious approach to economic reform, hoping to use gas and cotton export revenues to sustain its economy. From 1998-2005, Turkmenistan suffered from the continued lack of adequate export routes for natural gas and other trade. At the same time, total exports rose by an average of roughly 15% per year from 2003-08, largely because of higher international oil and gas prices. New pipelines to China and Iran, that began operation in early 2010, have given Turkmenistan additional export routes for its gas, although these new routes have not offset the sharp drop in export revenue since early 2009 from decreased gas exports to Russia. Although the literacy rate is almost 100% but the remains poor because of misuse of oil and gas revenues

During his visit, a number of agreements were signed, trade, TAPI, Cultural Exchange, Currency Swap, 1000 MW of electric power, Rail link, air links etc all were discussed and MOUs signed. Besides this, Pakistan must offer military cooperation and train the Turkmenistan defence personnel at all levels. Also, some sales of military hardware can be made by Pakistan to meet the limited needs of Turkmenistan.

Although the MOUs are being signed on bilateral basis, but these must incorporate the extension of the same collectively to cover the ECO block. ECO tariff should be structured in a manner that it encourages free travel with no visa restrictions, visas can be stamped at the point of entry. Within the ECO, an open sky policy must be adopted.

Under the cultural exchange, joint production of TV plays and films should also be included and not remain confined just to cultural troupes. Another strong cultural affinity that we have is the exchange of pilgrims to the holy shrines and promotion of Sufi music and festivals. Turkmenistan has a strong Sufi following and this is a strong bond between the as it leads to the central personality of Prophet (SAW).

Where we are talking to swap currencies, a study should be initiated within the ECO framework to develop a common currency. This would not only stabilize the currencies but also provide a price harmony within the region. This would also demand streamlining the tariff and duty structure.

Turkmenistan has extended the rail link to Afghanistan, Pakistan must step in and link it up from Torkham where we already have our rail head. Once this link is established, then we are linked with Russia and beyond to Europe via yet another route. This rail will also bring traffic to Gawadar port for goods movement to and from CAR.

TX Intelligence: Advanced threat report on the operation to remove Bashar’s regime

Informed officials belonging to two agencies in the Middle East intelligence community have shared a glimpse of what has been developing in and around crisis-stricken Syria months after the official announcement by a group calling itself the ‘Free Syrian Army‘, headed by their commander Colonel Riyad al-Asad (pictured top-left, formerly in the Syrian Air Force) emerged.

The announcement came on July 29 2011 through a video in which uniformed men who claimed to be defectors from the regime’s armed forces called upon and encourage their former colleagues to join them. The main objective of this move, according to Riyad is, “…to work hand in hand with the people to achieve freedom and dignity to bring the regime down, protect the revolution and the country’s resources, and stand in the face of the irresponsible military machine that protects the regime”.

The details about what took place in Syria and who is actually involved in the deplorable massacres is yet to be ascertained with veracity, since the Free Army rebels have been killing the official military troops and the latter has been terminating defectors and civilian rebels on charges of treason against the State. Sources in the Syrian regime maintain that despite backing by the Iranian government, the Bashar regime is collectively in panic and has been making the wrong moves. Pro-government activists in Damascus attacked the Turkish, French and Saudi embassies, thereby triggering a furious diplomatic reaction. Turkey’s Prime Minister Erdogan has already come out with a threat that the government of Bashar al-Assad is “on a knife’s edge“.

Supporters of President Bashar Assad have attacked several foreign missions since the Arab League announced on Saturday it planned to suspend Damascus from the 22-member organization and impose political and economic sanctions because Syria had failed to halt the violent suppression of protesters.
Foreign Minister Walid Al-Moualem apologized on Monday for attacks on the Turkish and Saudi embassies in Damascus, as well as France’s honorary consulate in Latakia and its diplomatic offices in Aleppo.
France and Morocco have recalled their ambassadors to Syria in protest against the attacks on their missions.

Despite the official apology and promise of action against mischievous elements, Turkey is still flexing its muscles which is seen as a mysterious move by many in the Middle East.Commenting upon the defiant stand by Turkey, US Deputy National Security Advisor jumped in the bandwagon:
“We very much welcome the strong stand that Turkey has taken. It sends a critical message to President Assad that again he cannot crack down and repress the aspirations of his people…Turkey’s comments today further point to the fact that President Assad is isolated”

Rhodes’ profile is itself evident of the dubious personality that he is. Reportedly, he contributed to the Iraq Study Group report and the fraudulent 9/11 Commission Report, which helped guide the direction of the 2008 presidential campaign’s Middle East policy.

In this context, we also have to note another suspicious act by the Turkish government. They have given asylum to Col. Riyad al-Asad and 60 to 70 of his top aides who are leading the rebellion in Syria. Why Turkey has taken a stand different than what was expected and which directly benefits Western interests is incomprehensible at the moment.

There is however, one fundamental objective as always. Syria is also rich in mineral resources like Libya. Oil is found in large quantities. A report by the US Energy Information Administration on Syria (last updated on August 2011) mentions that:
Syria is the only relatively significant crude oil producing country in the Eastern Mediterranean region, which includes Jordan, Lebanon, Israel, the West Bank, and Gaza. Syria produced about 400,000 barrels per day (bbl/d) of crude and other petroleum liquids in 2010.

Global Security Watch – Russia: A Reference Handbook by Richard Weitz mentions the strategic interests that Russia has with Syria has a strategic outpost against the growing NATO and US influence in the region, especially against the latter’s land-based Aegis missile-defence shield program that will be installed in Poland by 2018. NATO itself has added intensity to Russia’s anger by welcoming this move: “This agreement is yet another sign of progress for NATO’s missile defense system which will defend against current and emerging ballistic missile threats,” Rasmussen said in a statement on the NATO website. TEHRAN (FNA)- Some recent confessions made by a PKK (Kurdistan Worker’s Party) ringleader have unveiled Israel’s tight relations and collaboration with the terrorist group, Turkish media reports said on Sunday.

According to a report by the Turkish TRT network, Kanan, the leader of an 8-member cell disbanded by the Turkish security forces, confessed that he had played a part in the raid on a Turkish navy base in Iskenderun port on May 31, 2010, the same day Israeli commandos attacked Mavi Marmara, the aid ship trying to break the Gaza Siege.

Kanan said in his confession that he lives in Israel and travels to Turkey occasionally, adding that he had commuted between the two countries several times prior to the last year attack on the Turkish naval base.

Turkish security experts say that concurrence of the two attacks is not accidental and rather signifies the link between the PKK and Tel Aviv. They also believe that the PKK has attacked on the navy base at the request of the Zionist regime.

In September, Turkish media report said that Israel’s hawkish foreign minister was planning a series of measures to retaliate against Turkey in an apology row, including military aid to the terrorist Kurdistan Workers’ Party.

Accordingly, Avigdor Lieberman insisted that the Israeli efforts should focus on ways to respond to Turkey’s sanctions, not formulating an apology for the 2010 incident.

In reply, Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu stressed that his country will not be blackmailed.

Davutoglu condemned the plan Lieberman proposed to other Zionist officials, which called for punishing Turkey by supporting the terrorist organization PKK.

Wednesday turned out to be one of the deadliest days for the USZ forces as 19 USZ-NATO terrorist invaders were killed in two nearly-simultaneous blasts in Paktia and a further 10 American terrorist invaders were killed in Nangarhar province in a clash.

Russian Navy enters Syrian waters to prevent NATO’s attack

Russian warships have entered Syrian territorial waters in an aggressive move designed to prevent any NATO-led attack on the country under the guise of a “humanitarian intervention”.

“Russian warships are due to arrive at Syrian territorial waters, a Syrian news agency said on Thursday, indicating that the move represented a clear message to the West that Moscow would resist any foreign intervention in the country’s civil unrest”, reports Haaretz.

Russia has stepped up efforts to defend Syria in recent days, with Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov keen to frame the violence in the country as a civil war in defiance of claims by western powers that President Bashar al-Assad has overseen a bloody crackdown on innocent protesters.

As we saw prior to the attack on Libya, which was also framed as a “humanitarian intervention,” NATO powers are keen to demonize Assad’s government by characterizing attacks by his forces as atrocities while largely ignoring similar attacks by opposition forces, such as this week’s raid on a Syrian air force intelligence complex that killed or wounded 20 security police. USZ Terrorist Safe Haven State Department spokesman Mark Toner rejects Russia’s claim that Syria is in a civil war, stating, “We believe it’s very much the Assad regime carrying out a campaign of violence, intimidation, and repression against innocent protesters.”
Of course, we heard similar rhetoric even as NATO-backed Al-CIA-Da rebels were commandeering fighter jets and firing rocket-propelled grenades in Libya, actions also undertaken by “innocent protesters,” we were told at the time. As we have previously reported, despite overwhelming speculation that Iran will be the next target of a military assault, Syria is the likeliest target for the next salvo of NATO-backed regime change. USZ Zionist President Barack Obama got the ball rolling back in August when he called on President al-Assad to step down. The Zionist Scam, UN has already withdrawn all non-essential staff from the country. Without Russia’s help, Syria would be largely defenseless against a NATO attack. “I don’t see any purely military problems. Syria has no defence against Western systems … [But] it would be more risky than Libya. It would be a heavy military operation”, former French air force chief Jean Rannou commented.
Given that the western press has proven adept at manufacturing lies to justify military interventions, whether the actions of Assad’s regime represent genuine atrocities or legitimate conduct in the midst of a civil war remains unclear. Some have claimed the abuses are being embellished, while both former CIA agent Robert Baer and ex-MI6 officer Alastair Crooke point out that the Syrian people definitely want change, but not in the form of a NATO “humanitarian” assault.

Indian soldier commits suicide in OSJK

Baramulla, MTT News Desk: An Indian soldier from Border Security Force (BSF) committed suicide by shooting himself dead with his service rifle.

The incident took place at Akhnoor sector in Occupied State of Jammu & Kashmir (OSJK), the officials of Indian armed forces said.

The Indian officials said that the soldier of Border Security Force (BSF) from 86 battalion, Bablu Singh son of Padam Singh was on the duty at forward post at Garkhal in Akhnoor sector when he took the extreme step.

However, the Indian army officials did not tell the reasons behind the suicide.

Singh’s body was dispatched to his residence at Bharatpur in Rajasthan after post-mortem.

Thousands of personnel of Indian army and other armed forces, such as BSF, had so far committed suicide in OSJK. In most cases, tension-ridden atmosphere and denial of leaves are reported to be the causes behind the suicide attempts among the security personnel in occupied Kashmir.

In many cases, suiciders also killed their comrades before committing suicide.

The suicide ratio in Indian armed forces is rising and has become a permanent problem for the Indian army. In recent past, Indian government had also deployed female personnel to OSJK to overcome the stress issue.

In one other case, the personnel of Indian armed forces, identified as Havaldar Uma Ram Thakur, a resident of Rajasthan, committed suicide by jumping before a running train in Udhampur.

Another office of Indian Air Force, Group CaptainSunil Sharma, had committed suicide by Jumping before the train near Madhopur.

Sunil Sharma, aged 45, took the extreme step on November 15, 2011. He was posted in the national capital and was a resident of Subroto Park.

Sharma had come to Pathankot and was staying in a hotel before he left for hill station Dalhousie on November 13. He, however, allegedly committed suicide by jumping before a running train near Madhopur Railway Station. His mutilated body with bloodstains was found lying at the railway track, police said.

Being that she is (by her own militant insistence, mind you) the Jewish state, and with it all the accompanying ‘magic mirror on the wall, who’s the fairest of them all?’ Business, she’s just like that…The ultimate drama queen-Lady Gaga with nukes, banks, TV networks, and a chorus line of presidents, prime ministers, popes, priests, preachers, pundits and professors on the payola sheet…

In a verbal portrait-self-obsessed, self-absorbed, unplugged, pathologically-narcissistic and unable to care about anything except the latest noise buzzing ’round her like so many subatomic particles locked in dysfunctional orbit around the nucleus of some deadly radioactive element named J-Tonium.

And it is due to this narcissism-entirely, in fact-that the world has stepped off the stairway to heaven and now finds itself flying at break-neck speed down the highway to hell. Members of one tiny group of people with an over-inflated sense of their own importance in the day-to-day workings of the universe is the reason why apocalyptic wars are being fought and why nations-fiscally, politically, morally and socially-are going bankrupt fighting them.

And let us not engage in the all-too-common kindergarten-level polemics that Jewish interests are not involved in it all. Like gangsters of yesteryear who for reasons of their own criminal survival claimed with a collective straight face that the existence of the Mafia was a scurrilous fantasy, so too is passé taking an eraser to the obvious lines connecting today’s major geopolitical issues (problems) with Jewish power politics. Easier making the case that the death of a 100-cigarette-a-day chain smoker was due to “bad health” while pushing the embarrassing skeletons of his nicotine addiction back into the closet.

Not merely involved in it, Jewish interests were (are) the ignition key, spark plug, gasoline and pedal-to-the-metal mindset propelling the entire adventure. Take this factor-Jewish power politics-out of the picture and all that remains is a blank canvas just begging for a change of scenery.

Jewish interests wanted Iraq destroyed, and it was. Dittoes with Afghanistan, Libya, and on and on and on. Tens of millions of innocent lives destroyed because it was in the interests of the Jewish state and her people to see it done. Like some crime boss snapping his fingers and people instantly dropping dead like flies in various places, when La Kosher Nostra has spoken it’s a done deal and God help anyone who gets in the way.

Simple logic tells us that there was (is) nothing of any benefit to the various surrogate nations of the West engaging in this program of Mutually Assured Destruction with the Islamic world. The only beneficiary collecting on the life insurance policies of the deceased will be the Jewish state and her people, a fact you can take to the bank.

And now, without so much as even an ounce of regret or remorse for the apocalyptic trouble she’s caused the world vis-à-vis Iraq, Afghanistan. Libya, et al, Lady Gaga is again in motion, twirling and whirling like some maniacal, Judaic dervish in conjuring up yet another magic spell for her mostly-Christian audience of war-porn addicts. Sometimes singing, sometimes shrieking, sometimes clawing her face, gouging her eyes and pulling her hair, the witch doctor cometh again, hissing and hexing against Iran, and all because our would-be beauty queen is once again prevented from grabbing the gold at that aforementioned contest for world domination.

Like the many personality layers not atypical with paranoid schizophrenics, so too are diverse and perplexing the reasons for Israel wanting Iran destroyed.

Some are religious in nature, in that Israel-founded as she is on Judaistic religious thinking-maintains with blind fanaticism the notion of unavoidable, perpetual war between the Jewish and non-Jewish worlds. The most obvious proof thereof lies in considering just a few of the various conflict-oriented religious feasts celebrated yearly, both in Israel and throughout the Diaspora. From Passover to Purim, the theme common to them all is the dramatic defeat of Gentiles who “got in the way” of Jewish designs and paid holy hell for it.

The other reason an otherwise peaceful, productive world is now subjected to the ear-splitting tsunami of Zionist screeching for Persian genocide is a bit more complex and chameleonesque in its camouflage but really very easy to grasp once the mental illness known as the Zionist dialectic has been diagnosed and then decoded…

Like schizophrenics whose personal delusions of grandeur paint personal portraits of themselves as kings, queens and movie stars being chased by monsters that only they themselves can see, so too should a sane, rational world understand that the policies of global war and global peace are being formulated and decided upon by victims of a radioactive, religiously-inflicted mental illness thousands of years old in its fermentation/distillation/enrichment process.

This being the case, we must remember that rarely if ever does Lady Gaga Israel speak plainly (honestly) about why she wants certain things, minus of course her demands for money, in which case she is always Kristol clear. Everything else (as a matter of principle, it seems) is shrouded in mystery and confusion in deference to the motto of her intelligence agency Mossad-’By way of deception, thou shalt do war…’

As the world is now all-too-aware, Israel’s stated reason for wanting Iran destroyed is that Iran’s nuclear program will one day lead to Israel being “wiped off the map”…

Amazingly enough, there is some truth to what she-a consummate, established, pathological liar-is alleging. Indeed, a deeper examination of Israel and her long-term objectives in the region reveals that Iran DOES pose an existential threat to the continued survival of that “great experiment” in Jewish self-rule in Palestine, and indeed it is “nuclear” in nature, but not in exactly the manner the world has been told.

The first thing to keep in mind is that the Jewish state-by her very nature-cannot sustain herself in a fair fight on even terrain-ever. Whether it is Israel’s financial, informational, or the cultural/geographical/political strangulation she maintains of entire nations, the only way Gaga can maintain her place on the proverbial catwalk at the political Miss Universe pageant is through subterfuge, deception, duplicity and plain old black magic. For matters of her own survival she must constantly blow pixie dust into the eyes of all those around her, keeping them doped up, dumbed down, and-as former Mossad wiseguy Rafael Eitan once quipped-“scurrying around like drugged cockroaches”. Being that she enjoys permanent residency status on Fantasy Island, with her as the epicenter of the universe and with all inanimate celestial bodies revolving ’round her in some type of religio-ethnocentric orbit-so too must everyone else live in that place as well.

In sum, the only way possible for her to function, integrate and then eventually subdue her victims is to alter reality (or rather, the perception thereof) in such a way that the world as it appears is not the world as it is.

Secondly, and most importantly, it must be understood that Israel not only thrives on conflict and chaos, but indeed must have it in order to survive. Like a diabetic who needs insulin or some freaky chick with weird appetites and disturbing fantasies, she simply can’t engage in normal, mutually-beneficial intercourse with other nations.

Rather, she has to have her partners tied up as her personal prisoners while she cracks the whip and barks commands…In plain terms, the Jewish state must live in an environment of surrounding instability and chaos if she is to hold together an organically-fractured dystopian society. The absence of enemies (and more importantly, enemies who cannot effectively fight back) would lead immediately to the dissolution of the Jewish state.

The first (and most important) component in creating this chaotic situation is for Israel to keep those around her-“friends” and enemies alike-mentally impaired so that they cannot think or behave rationally.

As far as her Arab neighbors go the greatest weapon Israel has (and must continue to possess if she is to survive) is the ability to keep them drugged and “scurrying around”. Remaining divided, confused, squabbling, distracted, chasing after shadows and allowing themselves to get ‘lost in the moment’ (as we see taking place right now with the “Arab Spring”) is the single most important weapon Israel has in her arsenal. It is no different in essence than a 90-pound wimp who couldn’t kill a fly if he fell off a chair and landed on it getting into the boxing ring with a heavyweight champion who was drugged 15 minutes earlier and now couldn’t kill a fly if he fell off a chair and landed on it either.

By contrast, the moment that the effects of this Kosher-concocted pixie dust wear off and her Arab neighbors cease scurrying around and are able to focus, organize, and get their act together in forming rational policies for their various nations, that is the day a war-weary world can begin the countdown to the dissolution of the Jewish state…

There are no overblown displays of screeching, hair-pulling, eye-gouging or fist-pounding on her part. She does not engage in bombing runs of other nations, does not assassinate scientists working for her enemies or resort to Mafia-style tactics in projecting her foreign policy goals in the region. Through her president, Ahmadinejad, and the ruling council behind him, she speaks quietly and rationally, believes in the value of open debate and free speech and is always open to dialoguing with others…

In other words, the danger from Iran as far as Israel’s continued existence is concerned is that through her cool, rational demeanor she provides stark contrast to the delusional, erratic, schizoid, mad-dog behavior displayed by Lady Gaga Israel on a daily basis.

By default then, the Islamic Republic of Iran provides the Arabs with a model to follow. That she is Persian and not Arab eventually will not matter. That she is Shia and not Sunni will not matter either. What matters is that she has found the means of freeing herself from Western/Jewish control and does not have foreign armies occupying her soil and oppressing her people. She cultivates alliances and friendships with other world powers who give her a place of respect at the table of nations and does not have to prostitute herself in anyway to do this.

In short, Iran does not bow down before the beast and does not kiss the ring of the commission members of la Kosher Nostra as other nations around the world must if they are to remain “free”.

And what makes all of this unbearable (and dangerous as far as Israel’s continued de-stabilizing presence in the region is concerned) is that at one time, Iran was no different than any other Middle East country with great natural resources that had Western/Zionist hand puppets ruling her and oppressing her people. At one time she was as politically-occupied as the rest of the Islamic neighborhood until she herself (without outside “help” from groups such as the National Endowment for Democracy et al) fomented a slave rebellion and set up a modern, viable, functioning political system based upon the republican government model. Today her men, women and children are free, the very existence of which festers like a sore in the delusional Jewish narrative where Arabs must be kept mentally chained up and ‘scurrying around like drugged cockroaches’.

Therefore, to the 300 million Arabs-both Christian and Muslim-watching all this take place and residing in a part of the world where the divine will of Allah features prominently in all facets of life, the subconscious conclusion a great number of these people in the region must inevitably arrive at is that Iran has been touched by God and tasked with leading the oppressed out of bondage and into the promised land of freedom…

How long then until Iran becomes magnetic north for all the other political compasses in the Middle East? How long before things really begin to fall apart for Israel and the narrative she maintains for everyone else in the region and how long before real revolutions and real “Arab Springs” take place along the lines of what took place in 1979 before the inevitable takes place–that one by one, Arab countries cease scurrying around like drugged cockroaches, replace their corrupt leaders and establish new political systems where no “deals” are made with Israel and the West?

And this, fellow war-weary inhabitants of planet earth, is the real “Iranian nuclear weapons program” Israel fears more than anything else-that Iran eventually becomes the nucleus around which the various Arab (and non-Arab) countries orbit harmoniously like political neutrons and electrons in some type of sub-atomic confederacy. That the Arabs will cut all economic, political and military ties with the West and-using Iran as the middle man-instead opt for economic sponsors such as Russia or China and possibly form military alliances with a nuclear-armed Pakistan.

The secondary effects of all this are not difficult to imagine. With American money no longer welcome and America no longer able to militarily dictate foreign and domestic policies in the region that benefit only the Jewish state, the environment would thus be detoxified of the aforementioned intoxicating pixie dust Israel has used now for half a century in keeping the Arabs doped up and dumbed down. Stability would return to the area as well as its natural byproduct-peace and eventual prosperity. America and other Western countries would bring their troops home and, given the kinds of economic, political and social problems existing today resulting from fighting Israel’s interminable wars for her, the new cry in the West would be never again when it comes to these countries allowing their valuable resources to be urinated away by repeating the disaster that has now brought them to the brink of destruction.

The eventual (and inevitable) result of all this is clear, namely that Lady Gaga Israel, the self-absorbed, pathologically narcissistic wicked witch of the Middle East, grand dame of the ball known as planet earth and talk of the town, would become passé, truly her worst nightmare…The narrative she has forced upon the world over the last half century, specifically a Judeo-centric universe with the entirety of God’s creation worshipfully orbiting ’round her would dissolve and disappear entirely. With Miss Universe wannabe booed off the catwalk and shown the exit door, the religio-ethnocratic fantasy upon which her entire self-identity is based would return to becoming hers and hers alone. The rest of the world, tired of her antics, would get back to the business of life, liberty and pursuit of happiness, and in the process, the Jewish god of war-a deity of despoilment and debasement against the Moral Majority (meaning almost 6 billion Gentiles on earth) would be made into the monkey it is and never again seen as anything besides a dark fantasy created in the most unenlightened and undeveloped corners of the Jewish supremacist mindset.

With more than 900 USZ Military bases on all seven continents, and with a defense budget that outspends all of the other nations in the world combined, Russian diplomats warn that these latest deployments “strip bear”Obama’s true intentions which they describe as being nothing short of “total world domination.”

To understand Obama’s true motivations, these reports say, one has to realize that the West’s most powerful bankers who have given him more moneythan any politician, in any country, in modern human history far surpassing the millions given to Nazi Germany’s Adolf Hitler by USZ and European industrialists led by the former USZ President George W. Not just to Russia and China are fears of Obama rising either as USZ Congressman, and 2012 Presidential hopeful, Ron Paul warned this past week that the “Obama Presidency Warned Is On The Verge Of Being A Dictatorship” and USZ Supreme Court Justice Breyer further warned that the Obama regime was on the verge of creating an “Orwellian government.”

In a country whose President, a former professor of constitutional law nonetheless, can take an oath to uphold the Constitution and then spend every waking moment trying to dig its grave, and who is now warned has become prosecutor, judge and jury in the targeted killings of any American citizen he so chooses, one can see clearing why China is now seeking to protect its vast oil wealth in the South China Seaand why Putin has called for a Eurasian Union to protect Russia’s energy future.

Russia Endorses Full SCO Membership For Pakistan

ST. PETERSBURG: Russia on Monday, for the first time, publicly endorsed Pakistan’s bid to get full membership of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin made this announcement in response to Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani’s address at the 10th Heads of Government meeting of SCO, at the Constantine Palace.

The Russian Premier also supported Prime Minister Gilani’s proposals for implementing trade and energy projects.

He announced financing 0.5 billion US dollars for the CASA- 1000 that would ensure power transmission from Turkmenistan Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan to Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Putin said in practical and tangible terms, Russia wants materialization of projects including TAPI (Turkmenistan- Afghanistan-Pakistan-India) gas pipeline project and the Central Asia South Asia Electricity Trade and Transmission Project (CASA 1000).

Later, the two leaders held bilateral meeting and discussed several important issues including fight against terrorism and extremism, besides calling for the need to adopt regional approach towards dealing with major challenges.

Russian Premier Putin termed his meeting with Prime Minister Gilani “very pleasant” and expressed satisfaction over bilateral and trade ties between the two countries.

“Pakistan is important for us in trade and economy and it is an important partner in South Asia and in Islamic world,” he told Prime Minister Gilani.

Putin offered Russia’s assistance in expansion of Pakistan Steel Mills and provision of technical support for the Guddu and Muzaffargarh power plants.

He said Russia could facilitate Pakistan in the execution of Thar Coal Project.

Gilani said this was his fourth meeting with Prime Minister Putin. He mentioned that he joined other leaders at the SCO forum despite the occasion of Eid, because of the importance of the forum and also of Pakistan’s commitment to the regional issues.

He appreciated Russia’s support for mega projects including CASA 1000.

Putin supported Pakistan’s stance on war on terror and agreed to pursue the policy of counter-terrorism for ensuring regional peace.

The two Prime Ministers agreed that collective regional efforts were required to eliminate terrorism from the region to usher in peace and stability, and re-direct all energies towards economic interaction among the members of SCO.

He was speaking in a debate on the report of the Special Committee to Investigate Israeli Practices Affecting the Human Rights of the Palestinian People and Other Arabs of the Occupied Territories.

The Pakistani delegate said that the report had documented the state of human rights of the Palestinians and other Arab peoples in the occupied territories.The situation was characterized by violation of the Palestinian people’s rights to self-determination, freedom of movement, education, commerce, and religion.

The Special Committee, he said, had also detected an alarmingly high level of impunity enjoyed by the occupation forces.

The brunt of that impunity was especially felt by the vulnerable segments of the society like women, children, and refugees, and ending it was important for building an environment of trust and confidence.

Andrabi said Palestinian heritage was also being destroyed by changing the status of age-old cemeteries, mosques and churches.

Pakistan called on the Israeli authorities to meet their international obligations and cease all settlement activity.

He said that denial of the Palestinian’s right to self-determination was at the heart of the Arab-Israeli conflict.

The application of the United Nations membership was an expression of the inalienable right to self-determination, and Pakistan supported Palestine in that Endeavour.

For lasting peace in the Middle East, he said, progress on Syria-Israel and Lebanon-Israel tracks was also necessary.

Israeli Firm Leader: World Likely to Accept Iran as Nuclear Power

TEHRAN (FNA)- A top economist at a leading Israeli firm cautioned that a military action against Iran will be too costly since it will increase oil prices and damage global trade, and said the world is more likely to accept a nuclear Iran than pay the high costs of war.

A sharp rise in the price of oil, the costs of war and the damage to global trade would be too great and deter world powers from taking any serious action, said Amir Kahanovich, chief economist at Clal Finance, one of Israel's largest brokerage houses.The assessment differed sharply from Israel's official position that Tehran's nuclear aspirations are unacceptable and that all options are on the table in preventing a nuclear Iran, which it views as a threat to its existence.

In a report "The Iranian Issue through Economic Eyes," Kahanovich laid out courses of action - ranging from additional "light sanctions" to military strikes - and told investors the world would likely balk at taking the steps needed to stop Iran from developing nuclear weapons.

Even for Israel the economic cost of a military confrontation that could include retaliatory missile attacks by Tehran and proxies in Gaza and Lebanon would be too high, Kahanovich wrote, Reuters reported.

"Unfortunately, it appears that a nuclear Iran is the most reasonable scenario," he added.

His remarks came after Israeli President Shimon Peres said earlier this month that an attack on Iran was becoming increasingly more likely.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed Israel's parliament (Knesset) on October 31 in an effort to garner support for a military attack on Iran over its nuclear program.

In reply senior Iranian officials described the threats as "foolish" remarks, and warned that friends and allies of the Islamic Revolution would destroy Israel before it can make the slightest military move against Iran.

"This is just a baseless allegation because the Zionist regime is engaged in a war over its survival in Tel Aviv today," Vice Chairman of the Iranian Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Hossein Ebrahimi told FNA.

According to documents available with Our Sources, China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) and Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) are likely to enter into an agreement to conduct a joint study to finalize design modifications, which would enable Pakistan to acquire two nuclear power plants, each having power generation capacity of 1,000 megawatts. After completion of this project, a contract for establishing Kanupp-2 and Kanupp-3 will be negotiated.

The Planning Commission has said CNNC may be asked to grant intellectual property rights for the existing 1,000-megawatt plant and suggest steps which could help Pakistan avoid violation of property rights. China has three state-owned corporations, which can own and operate nuclear power plants, including China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC), China Guangdong Nuclear Power Holding Company (CGNPC) and China Power Investment Corporation (CPIC). CGNPC currently operates four nuclear power plants of 3,758 megawatts in China and also involved in 16 other projects having capacity of 25,000 megawatts, which are under construction. The company’s focus has been on three-loop 1,000-megawatt plants. The Planning Commission also questioned whether PAEC had approached the three nuclear power plant developers in order to ensure fair competition in offering the plants.the commission said.

Pointing out that the army was controlling the situation in Balochistan province, the Tribal Areas and Swat with “no civilian input”, Khan pledged to end such a situation if he came to power.

He gave the examples of powerful leaders like Pakistan’s founder Muhammad Ali Jinnah and PPP founder Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto who never allowed the army’s interference in the country’s internal matters.

He expressed confidence that his party would perform well in the next elections because the electronic media had raised the level of political awareness and President Zardari had “exposed the true face of Pakistani politics”.

He listed economic problems and terrorism as the two major challenges confronting Pakistan, and said he would stimulate the economy by increasing the collection of taxes.

Khan said he would also make it mandatory for people to declare their assets for contesting elections. (ANI)

Azmat Class Fast Attack Craft For The Pakistan Navy

The Pakistan Navy is slated to receive its first Azmat Class Fast Attack Craft (FAC) from China in within 6 months. These boats are not to be confused with the older Azmat class which are less than half the tonnage and are significantly less capable ships. The Azmat class will be the first stealth FACs in the Subcontinent. They will be superior in every way to the Indian Navy counterparts. To date however, only two such ships have been ordered. A follow on order for two more are also likely.

Of the two boats ordered, one is being built in China and another is being built in Pakistan. These boats are well-armed although somewhat lacking in air defense, a typical problem with smaller boats of this type. The ships are designed to have both a defensive and offensive capability. Herein lies the advantage of these boats - with many Indian ports within 200 miles of Pakistan, the Azmat Class's 500 nautical mile range and 110 mile C-802 range makes these boats an effective threat along with her traditional defensive coastal role. The ship is further equiped with a modern networked C4I system that will be a force multiplier in terms of network-centric warfare, utilizing the sensors of other ships, aircraft and PN assets.

The PLAN Type 022 Houbei Class

A question is often asked why the PN did not by the Type 022 Houbei Class FACs. While these boats are faster and stealthy, they have significantly less range and are also more dependent on external guidance and sensors. Their hull design is also not as suited for poor weather conditions at sea. These imply that they would be less effective for the Pakistan Navy. The Type 022 are also significantly smaller boats. In comparison, the 022 pursues closely the Soviet doctrine of missile boats which also require large numbers. In comparison, the Azmat Class is closer to an OPV (Offshore Petrol Vehicle) suitable for a wide variety of roles as an OPV and a missile boat. In fact, this author speculates that they may later even utilize ship-launched UAVs.

One notable characteristic of the Azmat Class is that it uses nearly half the crew for a similar sized / category ship. This shows how advanced automation has reached Chinese naval development and will significantly lower the cost of operating these boats. They also would lower the casualty count in case of war.

The Azmat Class is considered slower than some contemporary missile boats, although of similar speed to Corvettes and OPVs. The length of the ship in relation to the bow wave creates an optimal speed when the latter is nearly the same length as the former. At this speed the drag is lower, giving the ship greater endurance. 30 knots is thus a compromise and a an ideal "sweet spot" for a ship that is 60 meters in length. Further, this represents only open source information and it may be the ship can run faster when needed at wartime.

At $50 million, the Azmat Class is a moderately priced ship that is well-balanced in her traits and able to play multiple roles, a quality rare for her class. The ship provides both stealth and automation that breaks new standards. Capable of both defensive and offensive operations, the Azmat class will play a small but important role in the Pakistan Navy.

Israeli Security Websites Crash After Anonymous Threat

On Friday, Anonymous accused Israel of engaging in “piracy on the high seas” after the Israeli navy intercepted the latest flotilla heading for Gaza and warned that it would “strike back”.

Today the following Israeli government websites crashed: Shin Bet, Mossad, IDF, IDF Spokesperson’s Unit, Health Ministry, Justice Ministry, Construction and Housing Ministry, Science and Sport’s Ministry, the President’s Residence, Immigration Authority, the Israel Land Administration and Israel Atomic Energy Commission.

The Deputy Director of the Israeli government’s Information Technology Unit, Ziv Slater, said: “It has nothing to do with an attack, no threat and no hacking. It’s just a systems malfunction.”

“If you continue blocking humanitarian vessels to Gaza or repeat the dreadful actions of May 31st, 2010 against any Gaza Freedom Flotillas then you will leave us no choice but to strike back. Again and again, until you stop,” Anonymous has warned.

Is today’s “system’s malfunction” the first of what will become many?

A subtle way to denigrate Pakistan

In his article captioned ‘A Pakistan-China nexus’, Ashfaque Ali has referred to a report carried by English daily about Chinese plans to set up bases in Pakistan. China has already rejected such mendacious reports and statements about Chinese troops in Gilgit-Baltistan and/or Azad Kashmir, and categorically declared that it has no plans to deviate from its proclaimed policy of non-interference in other countries. The writer then tried to create confusion by stating: “Some recent developments in China may make people wonder if the stage has been set for a Chinese military role inPakistan”. The author concocts the story that the Chinese are insisting on its enhanced military presence on Pakistan, and then infers from it that such a situation could impel India or the US for a unilateral action. The author appears to be doing India’s bidding, as it is India that airs its worries about the increasing military bond between China and Pakistanstating that it has the potential to corner India if there is a military conflict. Anyhow, such analyses and conjectures are meant to suggest to India and America that they should preempt such moves.

In May 2009, in the wake of the US maneuvers in the Chinese sea and enhancing the US troops in Afghanistan, China had taken exception to ever-increasing presence of US and NATO forces in the region. Talking to reporters during his visit to Islamabad Chambers of Commerce, Chinese Ambassador Lou Zhaohui had said his country was concerned over the increasing US influence in the region adding that the number of foreign forces was too high in the region. He said that US strategies needed some “corrective measures” to contain terrorism, as terrorism was a serious issue and required cooperation between countries in the region to counter it. “We are cooperating with the US and Pakistan in the fight against terror and were in touch with Pakistani officials to chalk out a joint anti-terrorism strategy”, Chinese ambassador had said. China was indeed perturbed over the Taliban’s policy of exporting their revolution across the Afghan border during their stint in the government. However, with ever-increasing presence of US and NATO forces and especially India’s role in Afghanistan and the region, China would not close its eyes to America’s reversal to the policy to contain China.

Anyhow, China had rejected criticism by Washington alleging that Beijing’s rising military strength was focused on countering US power, as China spends a fraction of what the US spends on defence. It has to be mentioned that the US spends on its defence equivalent to combined allocation for defence by almost all countries of the world put together, of course, to protect and advance its global interests. But every country in the world has the right to develop its military with a view to protecting its borders and national interests. How China – an emerging superpower – can be oblivious to the threats posed by the US when it needs oil and other resources to keep the wheels of its industry moving? The US often accused China of poor human rights record though its own Gitmo record was despicable. Russia is also asserting its position in its breakaway Central Asian Republics and it is likely to join hands with China to counter the US moves of increasing its military presence in the region with a view to countering the threats posed, and also creating a situation to tell the world that it is no more a unipolar world.

Addressing the 43rd Munich Conference on Security Policy on 10th February 2007 the then Russian President Vladimir Putin had launched a full-frontal attack on the United States, as used to be the case during the Cold War era. He declared that the United States had overstepped its borders with disastrous results. He attacked the concept of unipolar world in an apparent reference to the United States – the sole superpower - adding that US actions abroad had made the world insecure and more dangerous place to live in. Explaining the term unipolar world he had said: “It means one single centre of power, one single centre of force and one single master, which has nothing in common with democracy”. He was also reported to have said that Russia had shown a lot of patience for the last 10 years but the US was persistently interfering into the affairs of sovereign countries, which must end. The emerging scenario in Latin America, once described as America’s backyard by President Harry Truman, does not augur well for the United States, as most countries vow to oppose the US hegemony.

India, however, continues to raise the bogey of threat from, what it called, Pakistan-China nexus. In July 2010, the Defence Ministry in its annual report stated its concerns over Beijing’s possible use of Jammu and Kashmir to increase its connectivity with Pakistan. “The possibility of (China) enhancing connectivity with Pakistan through the territory of Jammu and Kashmir will have direct military implications for India,” the report said. India may take “military” steps to stop any such activity, which has serious security implications. Stressing the need to remain vigilant, India’s defence minister Antony, however, hoped that China will reciprocate the initiatives aimed at mutual trust-building. India had reportedly sensed new threat perceptions and aired its concerns on a road connecting China and Pakistan through Karakoram. Almost three decades ago, when the road was laid, India made a formal protest. Subsequently, the issue was put on the backburner till 2009, but it again cropped up in 2010, and with a view to appeasing the US, Indian government has unleashed propaganda about Pakistan-China nexus.

New Delhi is upgrading some of the dilapidated advanced landing grounds (ALG) near the Sino-Indian border, ostensibly for rapid troop movement if the need arises. Three such ALGs have been reactivated in Ladakh. Work on other ALGs in Arunachal Pradesh is progressing. Faced with growing Chinese military presence along the border and other complex security challenges in the region, Indian government is planning to increase the strength of the Indian Army by almost one lakh soldiers over the next five years. The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has approved a sum of Rs 64,000-crore (approximately $13 billion) military modernization plan that would include raising four new divisions along the India-China border. Two of these would be part of a Mountain Strike Corps dedicated to offensive operations. The plan also includes raising two independent brigades, one in Ladakh and the other in Uttarakhand. If India continues to spend huge amount on defence, it will not be left with funds to fight poverty, hunger and disease of the teeming millions. When these lines are being written, India is to open bids for 126 fighter jets worth $11 billion for India’s air force.

The Muslim world has suffered immensely during the last thirty years, but has stood firm, inflicting defeat on the Soviet Union, USA, European Union, Israel and India. The struggle thus, has created the ‘Global Islamic Resistance’ and ‘New Centres of Power’ have emerged, which have a vital role in determining the geo-political and social order, in the region.

In the scheme of things, many a wrong have been corrected through Divine Interventions, to maintain social balance on earth. In the recent past, there are two such examples of corrective measures. Germany under Hitler, drunk with the notion of “superiority of the German race”, tried to conquer the world and disturbed world peace, yet within a period of fifteen years, the disorder so created, was corrected, through ‘Divine Intervention, i.e., the coalition of nations. Similarly in 1990, encouraged by the break-up of the Soviet Union, Bush, launched ‘The Crusade’ against the Muslim heartland to establish American supremacy over the world, claiming that “the 21stcentury belonged to America,” but through Divine intervention, balance was restored, within a period of fifteen years, at the hands of the rag-tag Afghans. The American ambitions and pride now lie buried, in the stony sands of Afghanistan, while the “Islamic Surge” is sweeping the region, soothing our bleeding hearts and wounded bodies.

The Islamic Resistance grew from the Afghan soil, under the Divine mandate, against the occupation forces, with a message, which is explicit and finite:

“Why should you not fight in the way of Allah for those men, women and children, who, being weak, are being oppressed and are crying: “Our Lord! Rescue us and send redeemers to protect us from the oppressors.” Al-Nisa, Ayah 75.

In response to ‘the call’, “over sixty thousand believers from over seventy countries of the world converged, in support of the Afghan freedom fighters” – CIA Report, and defeated the Soviets. Ostensibly they were supported by USA, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and others, but a decade later, between 2001 to 2011, without any outside support, they have humbled the mightiest of the mighty. The Afghan resistance calls itself ‘The Shadow Army’, and like a shadow, it extends itself, withdraws and appears again and remains elusive. It is a non-state-force, mission oriented and not concerned with the domestic matters of the country, where it operates. Poses no threat to others. It melt-away, when occupation is vacated, as it did in 1990 when Soviets retreated from Afghanistan.

The ‘Unity of Pakhtuns’, against foreign aggression, provided the bed-rock of resistance, extending from Karachi to the Hindukush Mountains. It enjoys the support of 24 million Pakhtuns of Pakistan and 17 million Pakhtuns of Afghanistan. Their resistance draws strength from their traditions, faith and belief and love for freedom. They remain undefeated and defiant and a source of strength, both for Pakistan and Afghanistan. Their will to resist and defeat, thus is considered “a great threat to American strategic interests in the region” – David Kilkullen, former US National Security Advisor President.

The ‘Shia Crescent’ extends from Iran to Iraq and Bahrain, including the sizeable minorities in Syria, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan and is a force to be reckoned with. The Americans and the allies are frightened of the rising power of Iran and have tried to suppress it through sanctions, embargoes and threat of war, but have failed. Iran has since been demonized as a threat to the neighbouring Sunni countries, such as, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Gulf countries, who, out of fear have purchased, US military hardware, worth over one hundred fifty billion dollars, to face the Iranian threat. And no wonder that the Saudi and GCC troops recently entered Bahrain, under UN mandate to quell the revolt against the Sunni ruler, initiating war between Shia and Sunni countries, so that, “both bleed each other to death” – Henry Kissinger.

In reaction to the atrocities committed on the Muslims, particularly during the last thirty years and killing of over six million innocent men, women and children, the Muslims have sought protection under their Faith, resulting into a strong surge of Islamic thought sweeping the entire region. For example, the moderate Naqshbandi Silsila, which had remained suppressed since World War I, now is sweeping the entire region, from Turkey to Damascus and Turkmenistan. Similarly the moderate Qadria Silsila is sweeping the region from Egypt to Sudan, Libya, Tunisia, Somalia and the Middle Eastern countries. This “surge is shaping the so-called Arab Spring into Islamic movements”, in Egypt, Libya, Somalia, Morocco and Yemen. A more orthodox Islamic culture has emerged in Iran, Iraq and Afghanistan. Such is the emerging reality determining the contours of the Islamic Order, against the forces of oppression and state sponsored terrorism.

Pakistan has suffered immensely due to the war between the Global Islamic Resistance and the occupation forces in Afghanistan. Apart from death and destruction, Pakistan’s economy is shattered; law and order has deteriorated and its armed forces are engaged in a running battle with its own tribals, which have a deep impact on domestic politics, turning it into “an aberration of a civilized society.”

There are dozens of religious parties in Pakistan, divided on the basis of sect, ethnicity and varying schools of thought, and have failed to give “a clean and decent way of life, Islam promises”. And out of this disorderliness, has emerged, robot like, the class of the so called “emancipated majority” – almost seventy percent of the population, bereft of Islamic teachings and its values and are demanding a secular order. Yet, the oppressed Pakistani nation carries the burden of the commitment it made to its national purpose in 1947: “To strive for a democratic order, based on the principles of Quran and Sunnah.” Time and again the nation has affirmed its commitment to its national purpose and has voted mainly for the moderate parties, rejecting the fundamentalists and the extremists, because its objective is in sight and the fundamental direction is correct.

While the domestic politics is warming up “there s a brutal race for power and money, by the business stake holders, which spells disaster” Ibne-Khaldun. This precarious situation thus places greater responsibility on the people of Pakistan, our courts of justice and the armed forces, to act and redeem the situation.
