At least 24 TTP terrorists were killed in clashes between security forces and militants in Mohmand Agency in northwest Pakistan. Unknown militants attacked three security check posts in Ziarat area of Baizai teshil in Mohmand Agency early Friday, killing 11 security personnel and injuring at least 12 others. Immediately after the attack, security forces backed by gunship helicopters targeted militants and killed 24 of them. Meanwhile, a spokesman of CIA/RAW backed militant group Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has claimed responsibility for the attack in telephone contacts with reporters. Militants used heavy weapons in the attack and took control of the check post. The area is located near Pakistan-Afghanistan border and is reported to be a very inaccessible region.

Mohmand region has been a trouble spot for years and the focus of multiple army operations. Its border location makes it a valuable transit point for militants seeking to travel to Afghanistan, where USZ and NATO forces are fighting Taliban mujahideen. Reported fighting incidents in the tribal area shows that USZ and its allies want to push Army to start an operation in the region which Pakistan Army has so far been avoiding due to Pro-Pakistan Haqqani group present in the region.
