Ideology of Pakistan

The basis of nationhood in Pakistan is Islam. Islam acted as a nation-building force long before the establishment of Pakistan. Muslims eventually developed a national consciousness in the indo-Pakistan Sub continent, they collectively struggled for the right of self determination and the establishement of an independent homeland to be carved out from those territories where they formed majorities. They eventually  secured what they wanted. Hence the historical fact which could not be denied is that the formation of the muslim nation preceded the demand for muslim homeland. Pakistan by herself didn’t give birth to any nation; on the contrary, the Muslim nation struggled for and brought Pakistan into being. Therefore pakistan is not the cause of any kind of nationhood. She’s only an affect, a result or a fruit of the struggle of the Muslim nation for territorial specification.

Our identity as a Pakistani:
We claim to be Pakistanis, only for the purpose of distinction or identification among other nations of the world. Pakistan nationhood is not the real basis for the unity of the State in Pakistan; it is merely an apparent basis. Our primary consideration is Islam which cements us as a nation and also provides the basis for the unity of the State.

The same can be said regarding Patriotism, i.e., laying down one’s life for the country. Muslims DO NOT have a notion of Pakistan as a ‘Motherland’ or a ‘fatherland’. They do not believe in worshipping the geographical features of the country. They are not supposed to lay down their lives merely for the dust, trees, deserts, mountains or rivers. This form of patriotism according to them, is idolatrous. But in their native soil, Muslims are ups in arms to lay down their lives for the religio-cultural principles on which the state of Pakistan is founded i.e, Islam. Quaid-e-Azam clearly illustrated these principles in his following address:

“Now you have to stand guard over the development and maintenance of Islamic democracy, Islamic social Justice and the equality of man in your own native soil. You will have to be alert, very alert, for the time of relaxation is not yet there.”

Our ideology - Islam:
Pakistan is an ideological state for it claims to be Islamic. It is not a ‘theocratic’ State because Islam is essentially a polity and aspires to create a civil society. Quaid-e-Azam clarified this point in his broadcast as:

“Make no mistake: Pakistan isn’t a theocracy or anything like it. Islam demands from us the tolerance of other creeds and we welcome in closest association with us all those who, of whatever creed, are themselves willing and ready to play their part as true and loyal citizens of Pakistan.”
Islam doesn’t recognize the distinction between the ‘spiritual’ and the ‘profane’. According to Islam the spiritual and the temporal obligations are not only connected with each other but it is necessary for every Muslim to constantly endeavour to realise the spiritual values while performing his temporal ones. Hence “Secularism” is an integral part of Islam and it is for the very reason that the Islamic State assimilates the qualities of an IDEAL ‘Secular State’.

‘Secular’ in a sense, where the state guarantees religious freedom to every citizen with out distinction of religion or race, aims at promoting the material advancement and welfare of all its citizens. The Islamic State as envisaged by Quaid-e-Azam, embraces the qualities of the very same ideal ‘Secular State’.
In this state, every citizen is granted the right of their religious freedom. Sunnis, Shias, Wahabis etc., Hindus, Christians, Parsis, Buddhists and all other religions are free to profess their respective personal faiths. Islamic theology recognizes a distinction of meanings of the words ‘Mazhab’ and ‘Deen’. ‘Mazhab’ means personal faith, viewpoint or path; whereas ‘Deen’ means a body of universal principles of Islam which are applicable to the entire humanity. Therefore Islam being our ‘Deen’ is the fundamental pillar of the State of Pakistan unlike ‘Mazhab’ since it is neither founded on any personal viewpoint nor on any particular sect. Thus in the political sense, irrespective of their religion or race, all Pakistanis are citizens of the Islamic State of Pakistan on equal terms. This vital aspect of the Islamic State of Pakistan was illustrated by Quaid-e-Azam in his famous presidential address to the Constituent Assembly on 11th August, 1947, when he proclaimed:
“You are free; you are free to go to your temples, you are free to go to your mosques or to any other place or worship in this State of Pakistan. You may belong to any religion or caste or creed that has nothing to do with the business of the State.  We are starting with this fundamental principle that we are all citizens and equal citizens of one State.”

Forgotten purpose of independence

Being independent is a great gift from Allah which we are most fortunate to be blessed with. We have the freedom of choice and decision, it's up to us to become what we want. But the thing most of us forget is that along with freedom comes responsibility, honor, dignity and most importantly our ethical values which should be highly acknowledged.

Pakistan was passed on to us by our great ancestors who sacrificed their lives so we may live peacefully today. Why do we forget the basis on which Pakistan came into creation? People before us took risks at everything they owned without caring for what they had to lose, they continued to face a myriad of obstacles for Pakistan. They had their minds focused and nothing deterred them from achieving their dreams. The Hindus and Sikhs tried everything to put a stop our Muslim brothers and sisters but they had already committed themselves for a noble cause to which there was no end.

Our people endured pain, suffering and poverty because of the inhuman acts of our enemies who were and still are pitched at the lowest intellectual level or I rather use the word savages in their context. But our people valiantly fought in the name of Allah to create a separate homeland where Muslims could practice their religion freely. However, things today in Pakistan have taken the opposite direction. We have gone astray, chosen the path towards our own destruction, as a result we are going through calamitous experiences putting the prestige of our nation at risk each day. We have lost our ability to make the right decisions at the right time. Ask yourself why? Give a thought to how Pakistan was supposed to be and where do we stand now. What brought us to these circumstances? Where did each of us go wrong?

Its because we have forgotten our identity, our potential and our capabilities. The very first thing is that our identity is Islam, our faith is the most important thing to us. We were born as a Muslim and we would like to die with it and for it. We need to change our characters on what Islam teaches us to do.

Most of us follow what the non-Muslims and the western world says. Why do we feel proud of acting more like them then following our own ways. If they say "Music is food for the soul" or even "Everything is fair in Love and War", then why do we say the same thing when both of these ideas are nothing but rubbish if you give a thought to what they mean. Today when you ask little children that who is their hero or ideal, they reply you naming a bunch of actors from movies, especially Indian movies. They are the people who perform pathetically to display themselves as so called heroes in made up stories and most of them based on nothing close to reality. India has been our enemy before we even came into existence and to this day it still carries on with its ominous plans to destroy us as a nation. Then I would like to ask those people that why in the world do they keep on wasting their money on DVDs and television-cable connections to view them? They waste their precious time and call it entertainment but what about dignity and self-respect? Isn't that more important to you? Young children who are going to be the next generation of Pakistan have heroes like these freaks stuck in their minds instead of those people who proved themselves to be one. It's them who served the Muslim world and followed the path of righteousness. Indian media has infiltrated into our lives so tragically that the people have lost their way.

We still have time to change ourselves and stand for what we believe in. Pakistan is ours, it's our land. We cannot just sit back and watch America, India, Israel and even the filthy rich politicians ruling us ,from behind the scenes ruin it. Pakistan is our love, can we let anyone harm it? It's where we live, now who would be insane enough to let someone destroy their home and walk all over it before their very eyes? If it's fear holding you back, then kill it before it flourishes inside you and work towards the betterment and prosperity of our society. Show your enemies that who do they think they're messing with.

Anti-govt. protests intensify in Tunis

Thousands of Tunisian demonstrators have taken to the streets of the capital city of Tunis, protesting the continued presence of the ousted president's party on the political scene. Protesters marched down the main street of Tunisia's capital on Wednesday, calling for the expulsion of the ousted President Zine al-Abidine Ben Ali's allies from the transitional government. The demonstrators sang nationalist songs and held up signs, which read, "RCD Out!'', referring to the former ruling party. The fresh protests come as the new unity cabinet is scheduled to meet on Thursday. The meeting will be the first gathering of the cabinet since the removal of Zionist Ben Ali from office on January 14.

In recent days, thousands have protested across Tunisia to call for oustedPresident Zine El Abidine Ben Ali's Constitutional Democratic Rally (RCD) party to be shut out of the government

Amid widespread public dissatisfaction with the new cabinet line-up, four of Ben Ali's opponents have already quit the new government in protest against the continued domination of his party. Three of the four ministers were from Tunisia's main trade union. Their decision came after the General Union of Tunisian Workers (UGTT) refused to recognize the country's new leadership. Opposition ministers want to see all members of the former government dismissed. In recent days, hundreds of thousands have protested across Tunisia to call for Ben Ali's Constitutional Democratic Rally (RCD) party to be shut out of the government as the country's security forces tried to disperse the protest. Police and security forces used water cannon and fired shots into the air to disperse the demonstrators.

Saudia Arabia quits Lebanon mediation talks

Saudi Arabia has decided to pull out of mediation talks on creating a new Lebanese government following the resignation of Hezbollah ministers. In an interview with Dubai-based Arabic al-Arabiya news channel on Wednesday, Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Saud al-Faisal said King Abdullah has decided to “withdraw his hand” from Lebanon. He also described the situation in Lebanon as "dangerous" and expressed fears of division in the nation. "If the situation reaches full separation and (regional) partition, this means the end of Lebanon as a state that has this model of peaceful cohabitation between (different) religions and ethnicities", he further explained. Lebanon is in a political standoff after Prime Minister Saad Hariri's government collapsed last week when 11 ministers affiliated to Hezbollah resigned in a dispute over the USZ-backed Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL) probing the assassination of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafiq Hariri.

Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Saud al-Faisal

Hariri and over 20 other people were assassinated on February 14, 2005, when explosives equal to around 1,000 kilogram of TNT were blown up in downtown Beirut. The Washington-sponsored STL was set up some two years later to look into the deadly incident. Reports say that the court would likely issue an indictment against some IsraHelli backed Hezbollah members. Hezbollah Secretary General Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah has denied the allegations in his lame efforts to sprinkle dust in the eyes of international community. He has described the plot as part of "dangerous projects that are targeting the resistance movement" when everyone in the rational world already knows the reality of Hezbollah and it's affiliation with IsraHell. The Lebanese As-Safir daily in November said that the United States of Zionism is exerting "intensive" pressure on Hariri tribunal under the motto: "No discussions before an indictment is issued."

{EOP}India's lies about 25% troop cut in IHK busted (SHINING INDIA)

The Indian Home Secretary’s statement regarding 25% reduction in the number of military troops in Indian Held Kashmir proved nothing more than a superfluous political stunt to deviate pressure in the wake of the ongoing visit of the UN’s top human rights official to India. Pertinent circles in the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner of Human Rights (OHCHR) and United Nations Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP) are clueless about any proposed "reduction" in the number of military troops in Indian Kashmir as stated by Indian Home Secretary GK Pillai.

Indian Home Secretary G.K Pillai

Telephonic discussions with the officials of these UN bodies in Geneva and New Delhi during last couple of days confirmed that the UN was not officially communicated about any proposed plan regarding 25% troops’ withdrawal from the occupied valley in a year. It is worth recalling here that the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights defenders, Margaret Sekaggya, started her first fact-finding visit on Monday last week. Her eleven-day visit would focus on the human rights situation in West Bengal, Gujarat, Indian Kashmir and Orissa.

Human rights violation in Indian held Kashmir and Gujarat

According to the UN-based sources, the UN official reportedly visited Gujarat and Indian-held Kashmir last week and expressed serious concerns over human rights situation in these states. The official had also reportedly conveyed the concerns of UN Human Rights Commissioner Navanethem Pillay regarding violent crackdowns on youth and continuous house arrests of the political leaderships, to the Indian government. In order to deviate pressure, the Indian government, in its response, reportedly assured the UN Special Rapporteur, Margaret Sekaggya, that the Indian government was mulling over partial troops’ withdrawal from Occupied Kashmir, Gujarat and Orissa by the next year while it would consider troops’ reduction in West Bengal by 2013.

{EOP}Exclusive Interview: Syed Ali Geelani

KARACHI – In the buildup to India’s ‘Republic’ Day, observed in Occupied Kashmir as a black day, Chairman of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference Syed Ali Shah Geelani has asked Pakistan for continued support of the Kashmiri freedom struggle, while showing concern at the ongoing political violence in Karachi.

Speaking to the Karachi based ‘Fortress Magazine’, Geelani expressed fears that the recent ethnic violence in Karachi is an attempt to strike at the foundation on which Pakistan was built. While calling for a show of unity amongst their ranks, Geelani appealed to the Pakistan government to stabilize the situation as a strong and stable Pakistan can better fight the case for Kashmir’s freedom from Indian rule.
‘Allah knows what our future would be. But Pakistan which was formed on ideological boundaries, its stability is the biggest concern. Freedom movement of Kashmir is suffering due to the instability in Pakistan imposed on it through the Balochistan issue, Drone and terror attacks on its soil.’ He added.
Geelani called for January 26th to be marked as a black day to remind the world of India’s brutal occupation of Kashmir. January 26th is celebrated as ‘Republic’ day all over India.
“We will observe peaceful processions on 26th January with Black Flags with “GO INDIA GO” slogans. Kashmiris have suffered brutal and unimaginable horrors and atrocities for the past 63 years. It is time for the world and specially the Muslim nations to respond to this oppression. We believe Pakistan will not only reply on diplomatic statements, but infact take steps to strongly support our legitimate struggle”, added Geelani.
He also requested that his message be passed on to the masses and officials in Pakistan that Kashmiris need a strong Pakistan which will enable them to achieve Freedom.

{EOP}Afghan End-Game Must Be Made-In-Pakistan

Pakistan Must Say ‘No’ To An Operation In North Waziristan. Islamabad must resist American pressure for a new war in North Waziristan. Simply put, it is not in the Pakistani national interest. A better option is to push for peace with all Afghan resistance groups, including Afghan Taliban.
NAJAM MAHMUD | Tuesday | 18 January 2011 | Columnist
KARACHI, Pakistan—Haqqani and Hekmatyar groups are present in North Waziristan but they have never been hostile to Pakistan in anyway. Another militant group, headed by Hafiz Gul Bahadur, is also operating in North Waziristan which has signed a peace deal with the Pakistan Army. This is where the divergence with the United States comes in, since they view these groups as a roadblock to their victory in Afghanistan.
Therefore to weaken these groups the US wants Pakistan Army to launch an operation against them in North Waziristan. However, we must resist this pressure as it is not in our national interest to do so. We must know that while fighting America’s war, we must keep in mind our own strategic interests in this region. The US will sooner or later have to leave but we are here to stay and Afghanistan being a neighboring country will always have significant implications for our own security and well being.
DESPERATION
The United States is desperate for a face-saving exit in Afghanistan and it has been mounting pressure on the Pakistani establishment for a North Waziristan operation. In every strategic dialogue, this seems to be the first and foremost demand by the Americans. The other tactic the US administration has resorted to is the increased drone attacks in North Waziristan and not other Pakistani tribal agencies.
The NATO cross-border violation in October was also just another repulsive and blatantly desperate attempt to put undue pressure on Pakistan. The fact that Pakistan Army stopped the NATO supply line for ten days brought home a humbling lesson not only to NATO but to the Americans and eventually they had to apologize for this aggression.
A perpetual closure of this route will bring a humiliating defeat and surrender of NATO and US forces in Afghanistan, a fact which is now well understood by all parties concerned. Pakistan must use leverage this strategic imperative and ensure that all her long term interests are protected in the region.
Pakistan has been and must continue to build a strong national will at all levels in order to stand up to this pressure. Pakistan must also make the US and NATO realize that the best option for everyone is to work on negotiations with Taliban in North Waziristan, as they are not attacking us and therefore we can play our role for a stable Afghanistan in the post-US scenario.
Pakistan’s military officials have continued to maintain that any operation in North Waziristan would be undertaken only if it is in our interest.
Pakistan is looking not just at the short term but also beyond. In that scenario, most analysts agree that the Afghan Taliban will in some shape and form be part of any political solution that is eventually negotiated for Afghanistan. The US and NATO have to swallow a bitter pill and accept the fact that the Afghan Taliban remain a formidable force and hence without talking to them there can be no peace and stability in Afghanistan nor any face-saving exit for the US and NATO forces.
Pakistan has to follow a clear and bold policy on Afghanistan as only a stable Afghanistan will ensure that the internal security problems of Pakistan also get resolved.
General Kayani has already reiterated that Pakistan’s strategic depth lies in Afghanistan. However that does not mean that Pakistan wants to control Kabul, we simply have a clear and strong desire to see stability. Of course we want friendly and close ties and considering the sacrifices made by the people of Pakistan, expecting this is not only understandable but also critical.
The US has begun to realize that it’s only with Pakistan’s help that any lasting peace can return to Afghanistan.
The fact of the matter is that we have always maintained the need for starting a meaningful dialogue with the Afghan Taliban, something which the USA in the past was totally opposed to but now due to suffering heavily, they too have realized the wisdom of this doctrine.
The move towards peace can gain momentum if the Americans accept that there will never see any military victory in Afghanistan and just as the Soviets lost the war, they too have to accept defeat no matter how they sugarcoat it.
END GAME
There is now a general acceptance in the western governments that negotiating with the Taliban is the only way to bring this failed war to an end. The US must review its policy fully and rather than follow a confused and contradictory approach, come out with a bold peace plan for Afghanistan that is authored by the Pakistani Defense establishment.
The recent visit of US Vice President Joe Biden to Pakistan was to make another attempt at pressurizing Pakistan to conduct a military operation in North Waziristan. The Army high command has said “NO” and that’s a good sign. There will be more pressure down the road, but there simply cannot be a compromise on this and one hopes that the policy stand on this issue will not soften as that would have serious and detrimental implications on our long term security.

{EOP}Secularism & Pakistan

by Faz Zaman

Those who support secularism seem to conflate any idea of religion with “mullah”, thereby conveniently dismissing it. That makes them no different from the “mullahs” they despise for calling everybody they disagree with a kafir. If the agenda is to remove the word “Islamic” from the name of our country, The Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the stated agenda of many in the secular camp, then let it be very clear that they constitute a fifth column in this country and are traitors.

These ’secularists’ and the anti-Pakistan Indians are often found on the same side on most discussion forums. The secularist is usually ready to ally himself with any foreign force and is cheering the use of drone strikes against helpless civilians, mainly because they are presumably of the conservative persuasion. In the war between secularism and Islam, the secularists have demonstrated that they don’t consider any action to be too extreme, because they perceive the “mullah” to be dangerous and necessary to eliminate. The secularist wants madrassas shut down and all religious curricula vetted by a secular government. Imagine the conservatives of this country wanting to shut down all secular schools and vetting all secular educational material by a group of ulema – The secular liberal elite would be up in arms about their oppressive behavior but they don’t see any irony in their asking for the same thing. They have such daring ambitions. Imagine if they actually had the power to implement their fantasies – it would be harder to be a Muslim in Pakistan than it is today in New York.
You won’t see secular liberals filling the ranks of our armed forces and security forces. You won’t see secular liberals being the back bone labor class of this country or even the middle class. Secular liberals simply are a marginal group that assumes that theirs is the only legitimate voice and all others are mullahs, army conspirators, or the people responsible for lawlessness in Pakistan. If this marginal group cannot see fit to tolerate the ideology of the mainstream, then why should the mainstream tolerate the hostile ideology of this marginal group?
Shia, Sunni, Bori, Ismaili, Barelvi, Deobandi, it does not matter – all of these groups want a mainstream Islamic state rather than a secular liberal state. This is evident from the fact that support for Taseer’s shooting is from across the religious and ideological (i.e. secular lawyers support) spectrum and is not confined to any one group. All of conservative Pakistan is against the secularist/kemalist fifth column. This is the group that everybody can agree that they are against.
The fact is that this country was made in the name of Islam and it has always been the religiously motivated people that have fought to defend this country and have been its backbone at every level. The slogan for our army is “Iman, Taqwa & Jihad fi sabiliLLAH”. You cannot use Muslim blood to build the country and then deny it from being an Islamic state. The rich secular elite should thank Allah for the piety of the poor labor classes whom they exploit; without their faith, these labor classes would murder the secular elite in their homes and take their money for all the inequality in the distribution of wealth.
Another cheap trick that these secular elites have kept on playing with Pakistan is to equate the leadership of the religious political parties with the conservative/religious majority of the country. The leaderships of religious parties do not constitute the conservative majority of Pakistani Muslims and should therefore not be associated to religious extremism.
My sincere advise to all patriotic Pakistanis is to work towards a future in which the Muslims of this country demonstrate to the world how our ideology is complete from birth to governance, and consequently to the hereafter. Our just economic system must be implemented in Pakistan as should a truly just legal system. These are the things we must focus on while building our model Islamic state. If the extremist bigoted secular fifth columnists insist on continuing to wage their war against the innocent conservative majority, they should be ruthlessly eliminated altogether so that this country can move on once and for all, towards the path that it is destined for.

Rangers infiltrate Orangi Town, Karachi

In an extensive house-to-house search operation in Karachi, Rangers personnel on Tuesday detained over 500 people for questioning in the wake of a surge in target-killings which claimed nearly 40 lives during the last few days. Large quantity of arms and ammunition was also seized. Rangers launched the search operation in Orangi Town in the morning and detained over 500 people for questioning. However, local residents claimed that about 600 people had been detained during the operation.

Despite operation, three more persons were killed. A 23-year-old youth Umair was gunned down in Nazimabad. The four bike riders killed a person in Gulshan Iqbal Town Block-4. Unknown people gunned down a security guard in Gulberg Town. The body has been shifted to Abbasi Shaheed hospital. Contingents of troops kept guard during the search operation and people were asked to stay indoors. All markets, hotels and petrol pumps in the area were closed. Local residents said that children could not go to schools as the entire area was sealed. Troops cordoned off the area and vehicles were banned from entering Orangi Town during the operation. Motorcycle riders faced identity checks.

Officials said that more search operations were expected to be conducted in other sensitive areas of Karachi. After the initial investigation, 300 out of 500 arrested were found innocent and released. Meanwhile, Sindh Home Department on Tuesday issued the notification to further extend the powers of Pakistan Rangers under Section 5 of Anti-Terrorism Action of 1997 for another three months.
