DG Punjab Rangers killed in Layyah copter crash
A Ranger’s helicopter crashed in Sindh River near Layyah on Wednesday. Rangers Punjab Director General Major General Muhammad Nawaz, pilot Lieutenant Colonel Amir Abbas, and two unidentified junior officers were on board. They were going from Dera Ghazi Khan to Peshawar when the helicopter lost its contact with the control tower at 10:30am, sources said. The Layyah district coordination officer and police officials have reach the place of incident and are monitoring the rescue operation. Two dead bodies have been recovered from the river. According to eye-witnesses, the helicopter caught fire and crashed into the river. The cause of the crash could be bad weather conditions, it is said.



Layyah: A helicopter carrying Punjab Rangers Chief Major General Muhammad Nawaz and other high ranking officials crashed in Indus river in Layyah district of Punjab, sources said on Wednesday.
The sources said that the chopper was on routine mission when it was crashed due to inclement weather .
They said that a colonel a captain and a crew member were  on board . TV reports said that the helicopter took off form Dera Ghazi Khan and heading toward Multan when the control tower lost control with the chopper at 10.30 am local time. They said that incident took place in Kot Sultan police precincts.
Rangers officials said rescue teams have been sent to the area and they were trying to recover the crashed helicopter from the Indus river.They said that a helicopter has been sent to the site of the incident.
Moreover, Two MI-17 helicopters were also sent to the site for rescue operation.

The reports said that a son of DG Rangers Punjab, ADC Captain Muhammad Asif Nawaz was also travelling in the chopper. Some parts of the crashed helicopter were also recovered form the river.
