For the First Time in History Iran opens Islamic Awakening conference in Tehran

Iran launches the first international conference on Islamic Awakening and the popular uprisings in the Middle East and North Africa in the Iranian capital Tehran.

General Secretary of the conference, Ali Akbar Velayati, announced earlier that more than 500 scholars and prominent figures from 80 countries were participating in the two-day event, which opened Saturday morning at the IRIB International Conference center, IRNA reported.

A number of senior Iranian officials and scholars will also take part in the conference, which will focus on Islamic Awakening and the recent revolutions in Muslim countries.

Five special committees will be set up during the two-day event to discuss different aspects of the Islamic Awakening.

The conference will also discuss and analyze the history and basic tenets of the Islamic Awakening as well as figures that have played a role in such movements.

The in-depth study of a unified Islamic front and the issues and problems it faces as well as the goals and prospects of Islamic Awakening are among other topics of discussion during the conference.
